Yeah, but you ALWAYS hit the car with the wheels unless you have some funny canards or splitter. Especially on a Miata with the bodywork sloping in at the bottom.

I get some with the rear bumper of my boxy civic, but you shouldn't have that problem on a Miata.

I was Andy's first victim in the challenge and I swear I could hear the ocean when he started his car.

Andy and Beth McLure-Strelnieks seem to be masters of this challenge thing.  I think many of us consider them fun runs.

Nice runs Andy, but you should be more careful about staging Wink

When will they institute a "R tire cars get 1 warm up run"?  Of course, this just may be a personal problem.

I thought it ironic that Andy was talking about his vacation on the beach.....

Nice one!  And there was still quite a bit of sand all under the car from the beach.  Hey, at least I'm open about it.  Unlike some who deny, deny , deny.

Hmmm....that gives me an idea for the next pro...  Devil

Yeah, no kidding.  Complete brain fade on that one.  Funny thing is, I thought I was running against the other Randy.  Tongue Tied

Great job, both of you.  You guys did what it took to win.

Update with my excuse list for San Diego

hey andy, during your test and tune sessions do you spend time on testing spring rates?  i noticed in your san diego writeup that you learned the front runners were running 350 lb/in springs in the rear compared to your 450.  did you change to 350 or was san diego a setup hiccup?  i'm about to embark on what i expect to be a laborious process of dialing in my rx-8 for STU and was wondering if you could share some tips about how to test/know when spring rates are working well and when they're not.  Smile

Every surface is different, and some are extremes.  San Diego is one such.  After a while, you develop a notebook on the general characteristics of each and plan accordingly  Same with course design.  I haven't done spring testing in ahwile but may do so again sometime this summer.  We'll see.  Every event is a data point.  The car has worked well everywhere else since.

I'm a fan of the ol' Napa rotors.  Warp one?  Well, you're out a whole $12 (that's how much my rears where last year). I picked up all 4 for less than $50

    Re: Andy's STS2 Miata Project

Andy, could you (or anyone, for that matter) please elaborate on the koni coilover sleeves that you spoke about for the Miata?

I have a '93 that I am prepping for STS2, I have ordered Koni race valved fronts and sports for the rear, where I will be using the NB mounts as you describe. I already have a set of 2.5" springs, so I don't need or want to order a full set of GCs, but those and ebay sleeves are really the only coilover sleeves I can find any clear info about on the internet. I will just use ebay sleeves if it comes to that, but I'd like to know more about the Koni adjusters that you used, such as specifically which part number I will need to fit my car, and how much they should cost per corner. I like the idea of being able to run either 2.25" or 2.5" springs with a spacer, that would make it much easier to find cheap used springs as I test out different rates :). I'm sure the Koni adjusters are also a much cleaner install than the ebay style. Also, if anyone has any recommendations on bumpstops that would be very helpful as well.
