My 4th time at Nationals, and I think the North course was very nice (even after the change...it gave me something to remember from last year).

The South course looked great on the map...it looked like the kind of course that fit me (and my car) perfectly, as we both love slaloms. It probably drove just like I would have wanted, if it had been dry. Given the situation (wet, but drying, and in a borrowed car the likes of which I'd never autocrossed before), though, I was not happy. Not the course designer's fault, of course... ;-)

Good job to both course designers, and I hope to see more of your work in the future!

I liked both courses also.  My only minor criticism would be that we never used the brakes much.  We had hard braking on the reworked part of the north course and before the left hander after the showcase sweeper on the south but that was it.

I enjoyed the courses. My only nitpick is that the north course's gates could be hard to pick out for newer drivers, specially once it rained. Maybe some pointer cones would have helped. As it was, the course workers at Station 2 did a bit of pointing to get drivers to go the right way. One scary moment was when one driver cut across before the worker station.

I really liked the choice at the end of the first slalom. I disliked driving the long slalom first on cold slicks. Damn car did not want to turn!

I was looking forward to driving that one course element that was unfortunately deleted. It was sneaky good. Oh well...

Jeff,

Get a car with more motor (i.e. almost anything) or less grip (i.e. something on street tires) and you won't have that problem any more.

I thought both courses were really excellent.

The North Course was really open and fast, bur there were several places where you could hang yourself, so it was still challenging. It was by far my favorite North Course of the four that I've driven. It was a shame it had to be truncated - the section that was lost looked fun. My only real quibble was the visuals at the finish - the actual shape of the course was fine, but the cone placement / spacing made the corner hard to pick up visually. Oh, yeah, the series of giant trenches after the finish kind of sucked - I think they got patched before Thursday, but they were pretty harsh on the car for those of us who brain faded after the finish (only on my 3rd run).

The South Course was just simply brilliant. Great combination of elements, excellent rhythm and flow, and the type of course that really punished you if you missed your spots, even by a little bit. On top of all that, it was just plain fun. My favorite Nationals course ever - I just wish I'd gotten to run it in the dry.

Although I did not drive very well and had some car problems, I thought both courses were very nearly the best I've ever seen at the Nationals.  I've been to all of them and I thought these were terrific.  It's just a shame that they weren't dry for everyone.

I think some serious thought needs to be given to moving the event two to three weeks earlier in the year.  It used to be folks brought their schoolage kids and made a family vacation out of it.

I wish I could have had a dry shot at the north, it was fun in the wet.  South was awesome.  One of the most fun courses I have driven in a while.  I ALMOST made it flat footed up the first straight away.  My car loved it, even in the cold fog of the first run group Friday.

I was soooo looking forward to running the south course. A nice mix of transitional features and sweepers. Each time I walked it, the better I liked it. The outer "slaloms" were so cool ...... and then it rained....... I feel deprived.

I thought the North Course was the most fun I've ever had autocrossing, although the South Course seemed to be more challenging; the time differential between fast and slow was greater on the South Course..... at least in my class. In otherwords I and the other bottom feeders were farther off the pace on the South course than the North.

Yeah, the South course was definitely a driver's course.  While the North course could be driven pretty fast by a mid-pack driver with a good car, the South was all about the driver's skill.  Even though it wasn't really 'fun' to me (i.e. it had a pucker factor of 0), it was challenging and just fast enough that I enjoyed it a lot.  IMO, add a little more to the mini-straights and/or add some more sweepers and it'd be the perfect model for a Nat's course.  The North course was certainly more fun, and I think it was a great counterpart to the South.  Thanks to the designers for making my first Nat's enjoyable.
