Over the May 1-2 weekend Stan Czacki won from the pole on Saturday and from 2nd qualifier on Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. Qualifying only .1 seconds faster than the Mazda MSR of Div Champ Steve Taake on his first visit to this ultra fast 2.4 mile track, Stan had his hands full Sat swapping the lead numerous times with Taake but holding the lead on the last lap until a lapped car intervened and balked him (friend of Steve's?). Fortunately he was able to recover and win by a little over 2 seconds.
Sun. looked a little shakier as Stan qualified .4 secs faster only to be bested by Taake by a full second!! Since this put two cars between Steve and Stan at the start, he could not use the "Detroit" muscle of his Camaro to full advantage at the green flag, but did manage to get by under braking entering the infield off the oval. This allowed Stan to open up an early lead only to see it evaporate under a double yellow for a spun car/blown engine that allowed the field to bunch up during the two caution laps. Fortunately on the restart Stan was able to use Detroit muscle to pull away and lead flag to flag, winning by 17 seconds and moving up from 15th on the grid overall to 8th at the finish......running 1:40's in the Camaro on this 2.4 mile course (apx. 90mph average with one 2nd gear turn) would make it super fast in an FC!!
This puts Stan at 4 wins and a second in 5 national starts so far this season.....and a 30 point lead for the SowDiv title. Need to find a few $ to protect that lead, as two finishes can still be counted.
