here's a DMod Starlet owned by Redstar Racing, CA the 4AG conversion(corolla GTS) is the most common of engine/drivetrain swaps. but talk to cbramey, I think he's got the perfect formula in paper  here's my SM daily driver

The rest I can use for ballast. |

run in SM2 then, minimum is 1900lbs, lose the rollcage. i have a 4AG/tranny/diff swap and its 1900+ lbs with race wheels/tires @ 1/2 tank of gas, no back seat.

Just a guess, but it would probably be easier to start over with a stock Starlet than make Tito's car SM/SM2 legal. I see lots of required parts missing - and who knows what he's done to the chassis & suspension.

It's easy to build a R series motor for 160 hp/160 ft-lbs to the wheels normally aspirated (and fairly cheap).
The newer RZ truck motors are the "new" hot motors for RWD Toyota's, but are likely to be a bit top heavy with the twin cams. The old R motors will start tearing things up at high revs, the single cam with rocker arms is just that crummy. Good thing you can replace the cam and rockers for under $300, just make it winter freshening. For a while TRD promised a roller rocker/cam setup, but it never got beyond prototyping as far as I know (too bad, I'd gladly pay them $1000 for the kit).
If it were me, I'd be looking at the Camry/Rav 4/Scion Tc alloy 2.4 liter 4 cylinder. Light weight, good displacement. Just have to make the right stuff to mount it laterally.
A 1ZZ out of a Corolla/Celica weighs less than the 4AG and if anyone builds cams, it will easilt out perform it (more displacement, much more modern cylinder head design). I've run into people de-stroking the 1ZZ just to run it in displacement limited classes (instead of the 4AG).
