Just collected another $50 from Jack Burns Big Smile

How did you swing that? He has owed me $12.50 for like 11yrs now. I ran on tues-wed but stuck around because I wanted to watch some of the other classes run. HS was on my short list. I knew the east course forsure was going to be all mini's but thought everyone else might have a shot on the west course but it just looks like the mini is the car to have for HS to me.

Rumor has it Jack Burns got some inside info that the Colbalt SS turbo is going to be bumped to HS so he went ahead and bought one. Big Smile

Private deal between him and me.

Its not rumor. Its true that he's got a Cobalt SS Turbo. Its either on its way there or its already there.

No way that car is going to be bumped to HS as Kevin Deitz won the DS prosolo with one and almost won Nationals with it in DS, so its staying in DS.

FYI, go figure out what $12.50 at 6% is for the last 11 years is and tell him that he owes you that much. Big Smile

Driving the fastest shopping cart on the planet, I will tell you the Mini is still the car to have for the class.

Maybe you should read your Fastrack again... that car looks like it is going to GS.

Which month, boss? I saw the latest one and no mention of it. The month before?

If that goes to GS, are a ton of Cooper S' going to come up for sale or are the Cooper S guys going to move to HS by trading in their Cooper S?

If that's the case, they should just take all the cars in GS with LSD over to DS and make life easy.

I doubt ANY GS Mini guys will sell their car in fear of the Cobalt SS - GS raw timed all of DS...  Dietz is a hell of a driver, but that isn't the car for DS much less GS.

Thanks! No wonder I didn't see it. I clicked on the Solo version yesterday.

There's a lot of cars getting moved to GS.

Would be fun to see Craig go out and buy something else again.

I've run a Cooper S against Dietz in the Cobalt...  Nationals was an anomally...  the Cobalt will crush the Cooper S the majority of the time.

I don't think there is a lot, if any data out there that can back that up.  I've listed all of the tours and the DS / GS and top Cobalt SS time (if applicable)  I think you'll see that there just aren't many people campaigning Cobalts on a national level.  I'll still stick with my initial thought that the Cobalt SS won't scare GS Mini guys into buying one.

I'll stand by what I said.  Kevin has had the car less than two months.  He doesn't even have real shocks on it yet.

Re: HS Field for Nat's the Deepest Ever!

The MINIs have had a good run in GS.   No car is entitled to guaranteed dominance forever.  (See, whining by Celica owners after dominating for several years, see also, Neons in DS/ES mid-90s).   The disappointment would be if the "car to have" in a particular class is by a manufacturer that doesn't support the sport with some kind of contingency program, whether through SCCA or directly like MINIUSA.  It is nice when the support our sport gets has the opportunity to actually trickle through to the drivers.

Re: HS Field for Nat's the Deepest Ever!

Little late on this, but I figured I chime in...

I too thought the courses really suited the Minis.  I was actually naive enough to belive Will could make up time on the east course, the Civic does do well in transitions, until David Avard said, "Minis can slalom too..."  Bigger front bar and some more camber would help but I dunno...

Can't take anything from Ron though.  His times were amazing.  Fantastic job.

So right now I'm exploring.  Another year with the Civic with maybe a custom front bar set up and 245s all around from H or K?  Bittin' the bullet and gettin' a Mini?  MS-R or Solstice in CS?  Mustang in FS if I get really crazy?  Car has to be a daily driver.  It's my commuter.  My commute is is shortening by 25% as of next week.  I can sacrifice a little mileage and comfort right now because of it.  It was nice to meet guys like Scott, David, Steve, Kevin, Van and others at Nats though.  Wouldn't mind running with them again in HS.  We'll see over the winter...

It was a pleasure meeting you too. Well I think you could make another run with the Civic since its fairly new.

    Mini - maybe

    MS-R - definitely

Solstice - probably (find a used one for a steal)

Mustang- hell no and not with gas prices in CA.

    Those are my thoughts.

As has been reported elsewhere, at least items 8 and 9 are mistakes, maybe more.  Those went out for member comment recently and weren't supposed to go in front of the BOD.  I'm guessing you'll see a retraction.

Re: HS Field for Nat's the Deepest Ever!

i've searched through the 2008 rules and can't find anything about this: if a car has a dealer installed option [in my case, air conditioning on a 1990 honda civic si,for h-stock] can the option be removed legally in stock class?  if yes, what documentation is needed to prove that the option was dealer installed and not factory installed?   THANKS!!!!

Re: HS Field for Nat's the Deepest Ever!

    Lauzon,

Most would concur that all Hondas of that era had DIO air conditioning units. You will need to remove all elements of the system (brackets for mounting the compressor, evap unit, receiver-dryer, etc. as well as the major parts, too).
