Good post.  You are making those of us with a later start to the season jealous.  Keep us posted.

Jeff, or anyone else with an NC:

it looks like with the RPF1s and 255s, there's still rubbing, even with the fenders completely rolled.  What would be the absolute perfect offset for an NC in STR?

On miata.net most are speculating that the 949Racing 17x9+48 6ULR's would be damn near perfect. However, don't get your hopes up for these wheels until they're actually in-stock. They were first due out in February, and now their site says April...

Btw, I'm interested in hearing if Jeff is still getting rubbing issues now that he's raised his car a 1/4".

Yep, the offset on those looks good, but they are going to be comparatively heavy:  17.4 lbs.  (http://949racing.com/)  Granted, that's only 0.4 lb heavier than the stock 17x7 wheels, but the RFP1s are 15.9 lbs, according to Goodwin.  (http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Performance-Part/60-1290NC.html

    STR

I went .7 faster than my old STS CRX driven by Marc Osgood (who is no slouch) on the asphalt in Dixie last weekend.  The average difference in time between our 5 runs was .679.  It was 70* out and I was on full tread Toyos.  I've done 4 events now with 3 different suspension set ups and I'm getting closer to getting it right (or at least acceptable).

One of my first goals was to go as fast as my old car.   It's good to know that was achievable.  Now on with the further fine tuning.  I'm having a blast and I can't wait for the Dixie Tour.

    Re: STR

Would the 245/35-17 Toyos be too tall for a NB Miata?

I'd imagine there are some springs, some shocks, some bushings, some joints...

    Sorry James - couldn't resist!

    Hey all,

Im new to this site, some of the S2k guys know me from S2ki (hi James and Glagola)

I am working on an 01 S2k, currently I have the following

    17x9 +63 Volk CE28n with 255 Dunlops

True choice built, custom valved Koni's with 700lb front and 600lb rear Hypercoil springs

Intake, High Flow cat, Exhaust mod (ill explain in more detail if anyone cares)

This is what I am starting with for now, I will be at the NEDIV divisionals with Sal Dipompo (FM national champ 09) as my co-driver.

did not the s2000 pretty well blow out these other classed cars pretty handily in Stock classes?

and late to the party but where is the c4 corvette?  it stock classes with most of these cars...

    Re: STR

    cbramey,

The S2000 is certainly faster than most, perhaps all, of these cars in stock-class form, but this isn't stock class.  The tire-width and wheel-width limitations (255 mm and 9 inches) are there to level the playing field between larger, more powerful cars and smaller, less powerful cars.  Those limits favor lighter cars.

There was recently a good article in GRM where the author numerically compared the cars eligible for the class.  He concluded that the S2k and NC Miata will likely be the strongest contenders, but that the MR-S and early NB Miatas could also do well.

Since I'll only be competing locally, I'm glad to campaign my NC, since I like that car for other reasons.

As for your question about the C4 'Vette, I can't say.

I view STR as allowing many of the SP rule modifications but using street tires where weight reduction is at a premium.  Comparing cars in stock form will offer little assistance.  Some cars out the box are very well sorted so they excel in stock class but don't excel in SP classing where similar modification are permitted.  I sure didn't see alot of S2000's dominating in SP classing where they were strong in AS.  By contrast, some cars which suffered because they needed suspension changes and negative camber, really improved a great deal in SP format.  I know my car will be close to 2700# and while that does not approach 2200# Miata's, there will be courses that work to their advantage and others which work to mine.  As for the  C4, it wasn't included for a reason the answer which can be found with SEB.  As always, I am interested in those joining the fray.
