    FM,

Any updates on how the A-HD+ looks?

Yeah, I think I am going to pick one up, but would like to hear a few comments from anyone who has tried it...

     Hey Angryfist,

I used the new 1080 A-HD+ this weekend. HD picture in 720 60fps looks good on a big plasma. Sound was good inside the car with the window rolled up, of course it sounded like a hurricane with the cam mounted to the roof.

I just used a suction Chasecam mount, or I hear the new Cam-FX.com stuff is good also. :)

He seems to try really hard to inform everyone, but I can't understand anything he writes at that Steve's digital forum. Half the time I can't even tell if he likes something or doesn't like it. Very confusing. Its too bad, because he does seem to have deep knowledge on the subject. I assume he is not a native English speaker - but sometimes it is just bad typying/proofreading that makes for all the confusion.

I'm looking into other options for video recording at the moment (I've got an A-HD, and I'm finding the video quality to be unsatisfactory).  It seems like the newer point-and-shoot digital cameras can do everything the Aiptek units can do, but with better optics than a $20 Tony Hawk
helmet cam.  Two that I'm considering right now:

     Kodak Z1285:

    Samsung NV24HD:

Anybody used these primarily for video recording?  I like the Kodak for the price, and the fact that it can use standard AA batteries, especially since I invested in a good set of rechargables a while ago (easy to have spares on hand).  The Samsung looks like it might have a more suitable lens, but is more expensive, and uses its own special rechargable battery.

One thing to keep in mind, resolution means nothing with out solid encoding(see chasecam interlacing problems), a good compression algorithm and a high enough bit rate(see Cam FX issue). HD at 4-5Mbps will much look worse then D1 at 7-8Mbps. None the less a better option then the go-pro and under $200 its a great starter unit!

    Cheers,
