Re: Hold up on Shelby Conversions (New 2008 Bullitt specs Released)
01 FS Z28:Mike's car (the one I drive) was 3436 on the scale in the Tech building @ HPT.
I don't know if i would trust that number...i was REALLY hungover both of those mornings, and i was weighing FS (and the others). The second day they had to come shake me awake to do the Camber measurements. -- one of the Crazy Canucks I'm joking around, it was accurate if you saw it, i may have written down things messy, or in correctly i promise nothing haha.

Re: Hold up on Shelby Conversions (New 2008 Bullitt specs Released)
I saw the number myself, and we weren't much below 1/2 tank of gas... and we have Airbag equipped seats.
The '05 GT I originally ran was 3388 with 1/4 tank on OZ wheels, so I have reason to doubt that number, or Mr. Lambert's weight (the car's weight, don't know him).

Mine weighed in at 3367 I think it was......
This year it will rise unless I get lighter wheels.

Re: Hold up on Shelby Conversions (New 2008 Bullitt specs Released)
Spare tire? (The car, not the drivers) We only get that cool fix a flat kit, no actual tire or jack. I think the whole thing weighs maybe 4-5lbs so we left it in. I am surprised to see such a difference in the weights though. I figured the Shelby and the Bullitt to weigh a touch more with the strut tower brace and airbag seats, not to mention the Ford parts arent exactly known to be extremely light. I would think an industrious person with somewhat deep pockets could get a Shelby or Bullitt down to maybe 3375 or so which seems like the range of an 05 on 17" wheels. Of course the way I like the car would bring it right back up to the same 3435 range with about 3/4 tank of gas. I would also like to think maybe the scales at Dixie were a touch off.

Mine has everything but the Shaker 1000, I am using a stock set of wheels with 275/40 Nitto NT-01 tires.
Oh yeah that is without the spare tire and associated equipment.

Re: Hold up on Shelby Conversions (New 2008 Bullitt specs Released)
David Lehman:
I think you are wrong about the 70mph on the Bullitt. I was at Dixie with my ASP vette, and I think I saw 70mph one day on the logger, and 74 mph the other day.
I also have a 08 Shelby GT---------on the stock tires it does I think like 66 or so but nowhere near 70mph, and the Shelby has a 3.55------your 3.73 in the bullitt would have a shorter 2nd than the Shelby so your 70 mph estimate might be 5mph or so high.
So for the guys running Bullitts, why that over the Shelby GT? Price?

Well I dont know how many others are running one at the moment besides us. I am sure we arent the only ones though. Really it comes down to a couple reasons why we are in a Bullitt over a Shelby. My dad went out and looked at a Shelby and decided the car was just too flashy for him and too pretty to go out and thrash on. Had it been a black one over the white, that thought would have been slightly different I think. He loves the unassuming look of the Bullitt. As far as performance, we live in a world of disillusion where the Bullitt properly setup and driven could go give a certain FS champ a run for his money. Also last year we ran an 03 SVT convertible, far from competitive beyond local stuff and had an absolute blast with it, which for us is at the top of any list of reasons to do this stuff.

Re: Hold up on Shelby Conversions (New 2008 Bullitt specs Released)
Just my 2 cents on this. Since I have a vested interest in this, ccytrader is right, I love the unassuming look of the Bullitt over the flash of the Shelby. Collectability, I believe if you park your Shelby and wait for old Carroll to die, it may eventually be worth more than the purchase price, if your willing to wait that long. The Bullitt, most likely will never be worth more than its purchase price, unless you park it and wait even longer. I cannot have a car like that since I enjoy driving what I have. Rob and I ran the nose heavy, over powered, Cobra last year and had a ball. He paxed his way to a novice championship and I got a championship in FS in it. That would have been much harder this year with the new FS PAX. Like he said, I could have, maybe should have, bought the Shelby, but it was just to flashy to take out and beat on it. About price, I was looking a a used 07 Shelby which was less than the new Bullitt. At my age, I will never be the quality of a driver like Sam, that's just a fact. Rob is a different story since he only started this sport a year ago and gets better every event.
Side note, Sam, things at work have been very hectic and I haven't had time to call you. Rob and I corrected our camber issue and are running the Bullitt locally. It is much better. Thanks!!!!!! When things settle down at work, and we both learn how to drive, I will call you about the Koni's and am interested about what you found out about the Shelby.

Re: Hold up on Shelby Conversions (New 2008 Bullitt specs Released)
It is down to the Shelby and the Bullitt. The 07 Shelby's can be had now for right around $30k with very few miles on the odometer, and I have seen 08 Bullitts with prices around $28k. Will have the 96 GT out this weekend for the first time since installing a Autopower sport roll bar, will be interesting to see if it stiffens the convertible up a bit. Regardless of what we drive, I hope to be at nationals this fall.

Re: Hold up on Shelby Conversions (New 2008 Bullitt specs Released)
I hate to say it, but that's a no-brainer.... In the end, here's what you get with a Shelby vs. a Bullitt. A significantly lower Cg, and a bit more rear swaybar, both of which are things you'd do to a car in SP trim.
Bruce and Rob are great guys, and I very much enjoyed talking with them (and the fact they had a spare Hoosier decal they gave up to help me out). It was their car I poked around with and watched run. Much like the '01 Bullitt I don't think the real-world performance lives up to the hype. Now, it's a cool car, and certainly unassuming. I don't do think it's any help for autoxing as it's not got the benefits of a Shelby, and really not much more of anything going for it over a normal GT.
All that said, I do think they are pretty capable. I'm on record saying a Mustang GT can trophy, and I stand by that. The Bullitt doesn't have anything wrong with it that can't be legally tweaked to make it just as good. But it can never have the springs. The bars are workable in so far as you can monkey with the front to change the relative roll stiffness front to rear.
Each of the cars is slightly different, and I'm aware of those differences and I'm getting better and better at dealing with them and having different setups to account for those differences.

Re: Hold up on Shelby Conversions (New 2008 Bullitt specs Released)
Someone posted ( "I wouldn't hold up on Shelby conversions." )
In fact, I would not suggest Shelby Conversions at all in F "stock" unless you own a "real" Shelby GT. They are not legally convertible from stock, or even from a California Special unless you have every single Shelby component, documented exactly as it came from Shelby, including the Carroll Shelby signed dash plaque, fender emblems, rear panel and hood scoop, which Shelby only supplies with a "real" Shelby Automobile. Every car and serial number is well documented.
In fact, you need to be aware that a Shelby GT was never offered with a 3.73. They come with automatics or a 3.55 ( as an option). The FRPP3 suspension is, and was, only available on a "real", documented Shelby GT from Shelby. If you don't have full documentation that your car is a true Shelby, then you are kidding yourself, and possibly wasting your money, or Caroll will be after you. In any event, it won't be cheap. It's like a Rolex, you either have one, or you don't. Imitations are not legal. In some areas, they are confiscated. It does not qualify for F "Stock".
Better have your original window stickers with you, plus the actual Shelby window stickers showing these cars are true Shelbys and showing the included options. These newer cars are very easy to document, and they are also very easy to bump if you don't have all the correct original documentation. Every single piece is required. No exceptions.
I'm not trying to create a conflict here, just explain the rules, as I see them. There are still plenty of 2007 Shelby GTs out there for sale if you want to go buy one and run in FS. Building one from a mish-mash of aftermarket parts , however, is not a viable option for F Stock, IMHO.
Just my 2 cents.

Yah, road racing and starting a business makes me think twice about where I could get some cash. That and I want to tow home a Vette that has sentimental value to me. You got a PM Rob.
