I also hope we see Matt and Gerry back to give us all something to shoot for.  Many great people keep HS tough. Jim

Remember to contirbute to the Beer/Trailer program for the 318i to return. Party!!!

I am perfectly capable of learning from my mistakes. I will surely learn a great deal today.

    Re: Mazda 3i or S

    Thanks Jim and Scott.

I forgot to mention Larry because I haven't had a chance to run against him that often and I don't think the shock has worn off from seeing the kind times he ended up turning. Embarrassed  Sorry Larry, if you are out there.

At first, I didn't realize what a bonus it was having the chance to race/chase Larry, Jack, and Scott. In fact I dreaded it, but now I'm pretty happy being a tenth or so behind these guys.  For now.Big Smile

A little inside info on the tC. 245/45 v710 no problem, up to -2.5 may be -3 degrees camber up front no problem, 161 lb.-ft. at 4000 rpm no problem.

Also since any 2006 Scion tC could be ordered from the factory and arrive at the dealership with a TRD rear sway bar option listed on the Monroney label, it may be the only Stock class car with an adjustable rear sway bar. I've already made a copy of the window sticker, given it to Jack, and discussed it with Doug Gill on the SCCA.COM forums and they both think it is legal.

Now with all that being said, I know for a fact my skills still need a lot more work than the car. But that's where Scott comes into to the picture, he will jump in it and show how fast it will really go and I will try and catch up from there. Which might put me with in a few seconds of the rest of you guys.Smile

Oh and for anybody that gets interested in running a tC at Nationals I've talked Scion Corp. in to a $1000 contingency money for anybody that comes in first in their class. So go find and 2006 tC and join me next year.

I said it when I mounted those tires on there for you Jon......that just ain't right!  A 245 on an HS car is just WRONG!

Would I  qualify for the $1000 if I co-drive with you next year.  If so....the Civic is going into hibernation!

Anyone think a 91-94 Protege can contend?

    David

As I've now owned 2, ...no.

Good: Good chassis, good power for HS (well, the old HS), more torque than the 1.8L Miatas (intake manifold & intake cam), Long 1st gear?, doesn't have the wheelspin problems that the 3rd gen cars did

Bad: 14x5.5, less than 1 degree of camber, Long 2nd gear, 2400+ lbs, power steering dies in 1st gear slaloms.

I don't think the GTX is an HS car. Karter Bolmann has TWO of them. ;)

The red one is for sale, thought it's not 100% HS legal. :)

I'll bet that the TSB for strut bolts exists for the Corolla.  Audi 90's are also great and Dahl proved it to be fast enough.  99-00 Civic Si's are also a possible contender.  There have been a few running around a while back and they were very quick.

Anyone see Tacoma pickups on R tires? Chevy S10's?  Mitsu 323 GTX?

    Jim

Tacoma...S-10.....Huh?  Jim I am starting to worry about you.  323GTX....probably won't find one of those unless it has been stored and you will pay triple the value of the car.

    Re: Mazda 3i or S

Not to change the subject really but I am thinking of running HS next season in an older  Mirage and will have to run 14x5.5 wheels. All things aside (gearing, rubbing, etc), would 225/50/14 front, 205/55/14 rear be a more beneficial setup than a 205/55/14 front with 195/55/14 rear? Car weighs 2200+ pounds. I'm talking V710's by the way. What about Hoosiers (I know they only have two 14" sizes)?

     Thanks,

Scott knows this already but there will be a 2006 Scion tC coming to 2007 Nationals. The biggest advantage this tC has isn't necessarily HP or Torque, it's luxury of having Jack and Scott as the "measuring sticks" all season. Then come out and have fun with the rest of you all. Scott said he had a blast, so I'm really looking foward to joining in on the fun and adding to the diversity.

Hey !  i have an excuse as to why i won that weekend,, and it was sunday's course, THE DAY THE PROSTATE FLYER FLEW !!!  the sat course was fast but sunday's very fast, no make that very, very, very fast so much so that the only car that was not bumping the revlimiter all over the place was ME !  plus an added advantage  is those type of course's don't require lots of driver skill, sometimes it pays to have an older mini with the midlands tranny and a 64 mph second gear

    Re: Mazda 3i or S

Mirage Turbo's are fast for HS.  I remember Sheidler with his back in the old ES.  His was very fast and can run at the top of HS. I am pretty sure the 225's will mount up on those wheels since I used to run 225 BFG's on my Civic with 14x5's.  They actually mounted up much easier than the 205's since the sidewalls would actually move for the tire machine.

I believe that the 245's, camber, torque and power from the Scion tC could also be a real top car.  If the car comes from the factory that well equipped, then on some courses it could run with anything else in class.

Bring them all and let's have some fun with them out there.  I do think the 88' Mirage Turbo's if in good shape would be great also.  It's just one of those cars like the 323 GTX that are rarely found in good shape and pretty much close to extinction.  It's like the old Mustang SVO's in GS.  A real competitive car with the capability to run with the Cooper S's but very tough to keep in legal stock condition.

I still love the MINI though.  It's just one of those cars that has many qualities that make it fun for both Solo and daily use.  Of course, the Scion tC does have that large back seat area that I'm told can fit real people back there.  I'll bet that with 245's on it and camber it has to just look really menacing too.

I too will be back in the HS mix next year after a pathetic nats. Coned away 10th on stock shocks after overdriving every run. Koni's will definitely help as well as the 245's in the front that I should've run all along.

Hope to get a centrally located tour that we can actually get a good turnout for. I'd love to get all of these cars together in one place before nats next year! Peru anyone?

    Re: Mazda 3i or S

Best of luck and glad to have you with us.  Peru would be a great time provided the road construction gets done so we can get there at all.  Chicago to Indiana through all that nasty traffic is tough.  Normally the trip is about 3 hours for me, but the last time I tried to get home from there, it was 7 hours on a Sunday afternoon/evening.  Milwauee and Joliet are my favorite stomping grounds.

If you do go to Peru, Larry will most likely be there.  He's a local and fortunate to be so close to such a great event site.

is that TRD stuff on the car or just on the label when it arives from the factory, i think the stock class requires that they be installed at the factory, don't want you to get blind sided

Nope, stock class rules do not require that.  As long as the option could be on the mulroney sticker it is legal for all cars that are identically configured, whether they were built at the factory or not.

It is on the monroney label as an option.  I can verify that.  It makes uber amounts of difference in the car too I might add.

    Mulroney Sticker makes it legal?

I wonder if those TRD springs and intake can be put on the sticker...Also the MINI JCW optional suspension package...if it's able to be listed but it's not installed by the factory then it's legal?
