Hmm, this coming from the guy that has a red spoiler and some loud a$$ muffler on the back of his Civic.

Come to think of it, I guess that really isn't odd for a Civic.  Stick out tongue

So what's wrong with a red Civic with a loud exhaust...ya know, red is the fastest color and the loud exhaust is a trademark of fast red Honda's!Big Smile

    Hey Scott,

I'll be there for the NT and the doublecross.  Haven't signed up for the NT yet.  Those tires come in yet??

     Wes

I got 1 tire on Tuesday (2 of 2). The other hasn't arrived yetHmm.  I'll be running the Atlanta NT for sure.  I just have not signed up yet.  We'll have at least 8 in HS.

You get those tires yet?  I got billed for them, so I assume you received them.

Where is everyone in HS for the ATL Tour?  Man, "THE" National Champion Jack Burns is going to be there.  I want another crack at him on a surface that is better than what we had to compete against on at Ky Speedway.  I was a shade faster scratch, but we both coned 4 of our 5 runs.  His clean run was  .2XX faster than mine.  Unless he comes to UK on the 11th, I may have to wait until then to run against him.

Wes, Pete, and Steve's Codriver (whoever that is?) all have yet to sign up. That's 10! :)

I don't see the shocks happening before we get to run the national champion....sad.  They're the last thing holding us back.

So!  First pax at today's event...on my first run!  ...Which was a good thing, because our motor decided to spin a bearing again on Pete's second run.

    <sigh>

Why doesn't anyone race a saturn?  Oh, yeah.  This luck is rediculous though.  Should we go thicker oil? Thinner?  I can't believe we're doing anything wrong.  The last motor ran great, didn't burn oil, didn't smoke....then all of the sudden went.  It has a good windage tray, so it shouldn't be foaming the oil...and we check the level before every event.  Bah, not really expecting answers, just ranting.

Congrats on the result but sorry to hear about yet another engine going on you.  I don't understand why you keep destroying engines.  My friend had a 94 SC2 that he beat the crap out of for several years and never had any issues with it.  Hopefully it will be up and running in time for Doublecross.

Great job on pax!  That sucks another engine went.  I autocrossed an 02 Saturn single cammer that I beat the snot out of and never had any kind of problems.  Once you get your engine and suspension sorted out that car is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

Where are you getting your engines from, and what are you doing to them?

Hmm... Well all my Saturns have eaten oil, but I have never had an engine go. I was more concerned with getting rid of gunk rather than keeping the seals from leaking, so I've run motor flushes and Marvel Mystery oil through the crankcase. I've had 10W40 Mobile 1 and 5W40 Shell Rotella in the SC2. I also make sure the engine is up to operating temperature before runs. I often have a lot of valve ticking--Mrs. Hollis was concerned enough about it to ask me to put another quart in at the Peru Cone Clinic last year.

    Re: HS 2008

We get a lot of valve tick too.  I figure it's like a miata and it's not too much to be concerned with.  Pete has run 10-30 in his wagon and it stops the tick for that car, so maybe we'll start running the thicker oil.

Our first engine this year was a purpose build...lots of machine work, all new parts.  Lost oil pressure and ate itself.

This engine was a 140k junkyard motor from an automatic wagon.  We pulled it ourselves (in 45 minutes!) and cleaned it up a bit before throwing it in...never took the oil pan off even.  It ran well like I said, and without any warning or weird noises spun a bearing (we assume...it sounds horrible, way worse than the one we formed in GA).

My friend is selling his '94 sedan, manual windows, manual locks, abs (means we'd have rear disc where we don't now), no sunroof, cloth interior, etc for cheap. It's actually a car I used to own...it looks a ton better, is a better color, and should only be about 50lbs heavier than the coupe.  I'm going to go weigh it today and see.  The big PITA with doing that would be swapping all the new parts we put on the coupe onto that car...but we're tired of pouring effort into this one :p  Anyone want to buy a saturn?Zip it!

edit: forgot to mention....it was on our hankooks!  There you go James ;)

The wagons I've seen have been sadly neglected. My SW2 needs a lot more work than my SC2. I've been putting all the new parts to the coupe and reusing the coupe parts on the wagon. Not trying to dissuade you from the 1994 sedan, but the 1995+ cars lost the motorized seatbelts and gained lighter bumpers. Also the sedans not only have a longer wheelbase, they also have softer rear springs. They should have slightly lighter front ends (no motorized lights), so that might be a small advantage. Good luck!

    Re: HS 2008

Yes, I would bet money that 98% of junkyard Saturn engines will not be healthy enough to autocross on.  We had our '95 SL2 that my wife ran very hard, even let it go to less than 1qt of oil in the crankcase, but we took a lot of care and it still was ready to be dead at about 150K miles.  Drank a lot of oil, even after the Saturn TSB piston cleaning and Auto-RX treatments.

Time to just go get a crate motor from saturn, or rebuild one of the ones you have.  With the history of oil consumption and owners that did not really pay attention to things like that, you're setting yourself up for failure :(

You need to look up John Wiser in STS at the DoubleCross.  He's been running a SC2 for a while and the engine seems to be happy.  Might be that Amsoil I am selling him, though.  Smile

    Ft. Worth Tour

Those that didn't make it missed a fun event, despite the 50 degree weather we ran in on Saturday, Sunday was GREAT!!!  It was good to meet everyone!  Hopefully they will announce the Kansas City tour for the weekend of August 30-31 sometime soon!   It's only a few weeks before nats and Lot L is bigger than the bus lot, plus it's regular asphalt not that sealed crap!
