New website for the milwaukee crowd

    Hello all,

I just finished creating a new website for the milwaukee autocross community. It is www.autox-milwaukee.com Please visit it and let me know what you think of the website. I am completely open to input and suggestions because I want this to be a true community website. If there is something you'd like to see on there, I will try and make it happen :)

Re: New website for the milwaukee crowd

    Why I made the website?

Well the reason i made the website is because there are a couple of different clubs here in the milwaukee area, so if you want to find out info, you have to go to a couple of different websites. This is an attempt to be a central website to get all the info you need in one place; for all events and all news. Plus its a great way to test out my web design abilities :)

I think Rick's point is that you're diluting the information pool.  Between the Chicago/Milw egroups email list and this very forum there are already enough places to find info or ask questions. Rick checks enough websites already, he doesn't need to add another bookmark.  Smile

Re: New website for the milwaukee crowd

oh ok. Yea i see your point but i felt like the resources we had were not geared enough specifically toward the milwaukee crowd. I wasn't aware of the email list which means i'm sure other people aren't as well. So when I wanted to know when an event was, i'd have to look at a couple of different sites. My goal was to have all the information in the milwaukee area on one site so I don't have to goto a couple of different places. I hope that answers your question a little better :)

I like it because all the info is right there....

    Just one man's opinion.

It's going to an interesting season...

A single site to post info: the schedule, car classing helper, Supps, etc. is a wonderful idea.  It just doesn't need to be a discussion forum.  That's already covered quite well.

    Thanks, with Numerouss H's & K's,

Re: New website for the milwaukee crowd

The reason I felt the need to add a forum to the website was because this forum only covers SCCA related events where my website goes beyond SCCA and is open to all the clubs in the milwaukee area. My forum is by no means trying to replace this forum or even trying to compete with this forum. It is simply just another place to talk.

Where is this covered "quite well"?   This little sub-forum doesn't generate enough activity to really count, and I haven't seen anything else.  Huh?

My guess is that it gets all of the discussion people want to discuss or they use the Yahoo Group for Milwaukee/Chicago Autocross.

BTW, non SCCA events can be, and are often, mentioned on these forums.

Frankly, both Milwaukee & Chicago Regions are missing the boat, when it comes to online social networking.  A high percentage of those under 30 years old live online, and in my opinion, clubs that don't nurture online communities are setting themselves up for long-term membership/participation issues.

And I do have some measure of experience with this issue.  5 years ago, my local club was pretty stagnant.  Then we started aggressively developing an online community that now has more posts in a day than this sub-forum has in a month.  The majority of new members find us online first, every single event sells out 1-2 weeks (or more) in advance, and we're financially stronger than ever before.  Our club schedule includes 16 events, including driving schools.

I'm not certain the original poster's website is the best solution, as a site sponsored by an organization with a stake in the autocross community is more likely to provide long-term stability.  However, I'd love to see my "home" SCCA Region develop a real online community.

Re: New website for the milwaukee crowd

I agree, Steve (sort of), I was opposed to this sub forum being created here.  The Yaho Group I mentioned before had been in good use and kept folks privy.  Now, you don't know where to look.  As mentioned, I'm not opposed to anyone coming up with a "Schedule Site", but all more discussion forums will do, is dilute the discussion between too many spots.  Or, folks will post the same damn thing on all of them.  Sorry, I don't have that much time.

The part about being stagnant is appropriate for some areas.  Milwaukee and Chicago don't have that problem.

Re: New website for the milwaukee crowd

If we can help in any way, we don't mind... we have many regions using this site for their 'Official Region' forum discussions, and we offer this absolutely free. We also are always open to any form of discussion... and any club!  Let's just talk cars, and racing!

Nice job on creating your own site as well!

I had absolutely no idea that site existed.

Prior to moving back to WI, I was used to this in Atlanta.

Very active, lots of great discussion, guidance for noobs, announcements, etc, all in one place.
