    100 Acre Wood

Ok, so it's still a bit early, but wanted to remind everyone that it's happening again in February '10.  Dates are 2/26-27 and we're the second round of only six this year of the Rally-America national series.  We're starting in Steelville on Friday and Salem on Sat. and will once again be running the Super Special stage at the Potosi Lions Park (which is the closest stage to the StL area).

We always need tons of volunteers to pull this off, so I hope you'll consider coming down for either or both days.  HAM operators and medical personnel are always the hardest to get enough of, so if you know of anybody like that, please let em know we need them.  If you'll need a motel, will need to get that soon as they always fill up quick.  All of the area motels are listed at www.100aw.org and volunteer registration is open on the website as well (under the worker tab).  If you aren't able to volunteer, at least try to make it down to spectate as it's your only chance to see this kind of thing without traveling more than ten hours.  Do note that the current schedule listed is last years, but will be similar.

If anybody has any questions, post em here or feel free to email/pm me.  I'm still the volunteer coordinator.

    Re: 100 Acre Wood

I've got a quick question - as you're the Volunteer Coordinator: What might a Volunteer (that's not done one of these events) expect to do? I guess I should say, what jobs do you need filled? Anything that "crosses over" to Auto-X? with minimal training? How about for someone who has limited mobility? (The Wife has MS - can't run far, or lift very heavy objects, she tires easily)

We're just in the "mulling it over" phase right now, seems you're the person to ask of these things.

    Re: 100 Acre Wood

Other than it involves race cars on race tires, it doesn't have much crossover to Solo, but no experience or special skills are needed for most of the jobs.  Marshaling and control workers are the two most common things to do.  Marshals park their cars at interstecting roads and keep everyone else out.  You're there as an ambassador of the event to explain to any unknowing locals, etc, what's going on and that we have permission to close the road for a couple hours and to ensure that they do not get on the stage.  If they do, there are procedures to follow, but won't get into that just yet.  Otherwise you just sit back out in the boonies and watch the cars go by at speed.

Control workers sit at the start and finish of each stage to time the cars into and out of the stage.  It's more of a hands on job where you get to talk to the drivers and see the cars close up and are much more in the know as there are HAM radios there tied to net control.   There are other things to do, as well, like medical personnel, Sweep (trucks that drive the stages after the cars and tow em out if they go off), tech (analyze the cars before the event to make sure they're up to par), service area marshals, and spectator area marshals.

Stupid work schedule.  Of course I'm working that weekend.....again....

Maybe I'll see if someone will trade with me but I won't know until a lot closer.

If you're able to make it and need a place to crash you're more than welcome to stay with us.  Unsure of how many we actually have staying with us, may be 1 or 2.

Might be able to help with tech, that is if you let tech people from club racing near rally cars.

    *smile*

I know that is only Thursday and that is fine, I can drive out do tech and be home Thursday evening.

    Thanks.  You have an email.

Also, there are some updates on the website.  No detailed schedule yet, but should be soon.

The Wife (Jeanie) and I have filled-out the Volunteer form on the website. Essentially, we've left it up to you to place us where needed.

Anyone want to hand out some flyers for me while your standing in the woods? In a nutshell, the flyers will be offering a 10% discount on certain services. When a customer comes in for services with the flyer that you gave them, you'll receive a $50.00 Visa Card. No limit to the # of cards you can recieve.

Let me know if you're interested by email so I can keep everyone straight scott@izzyscustomcages.com

    Re: 100 Acre Wood

I wanted to let the StL crowd know about a chance to help out the event this year that doesn't involve spending the entire day or more down there and no motels needed.  We will be again running the super special stage at the Lions Park in Potosi on Saturday.  This is the closest we get to StL.  You can just drive down there and watch it or volunteer to help with this stage.  You would need to be there around noon or 12:30 and would be done by 5ish.  It could involve timing cars, putting up banner tape, helping set up, or just marshaling the spectators.  We are doing this up a bit bigger than years past in that the rally cars will come  there around 2:45 and park for about an hour so that all the spectators can see the cars up close and talk to the drivers.  Then at 3:45 they will each run the stage once, before heading back out into the woods.  So this will take a few more volunteers than years past.  If you are interested in helping with this, please email me at curt@100aw.org as I don't get to the forums too much this time of year.

Also, lots of other info has been posted to the website, www.100aw.org  We have 35 entries so far, but still have 11 days to enter.

Of course if you want to come to Salem and work out in the woods, we can always use help there, too.

I have some photos up!  Mostly from the Parc Expose and the Super Special on Saturday, along with a few from SS13:

    Re: 100 Acre Wood

There will be lots of links to pics and video up soon on the event website, but this one is pretty cool.  It's from a central MO NBC affiliate newscast http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwGp1A8K71U

Also, big thanks to all of the volunteers who came out to help.  It was by far the best attended rally we've had yet.  We had more volunteers and spectators than we've ever had before.
