    SMF Two-seaters

After spending a couple hours studying the 2010 rules "draft" and looking back through Fastrack news proposals and motions, where did the idea of excluding the CRX and DelSol come from?  As SMF was shown as supplemental in the November Fastrack it stated the class to be for front-wheel-drive TWO and four seaters.  Somewhere since then it looks like somebody may have added to exclude what are possibly the only two FWD two seaters that exist here.  My co-driver and I are planning a letter to submit immediately but I would just like to know if there was something posted that I missed.  Anybody?

    Re: SMF Two-seaters

I contacted the SEB a week or two ago about the error (the version passed in the Nov. Fastrack had 2 seat cars at a weight disadvantage but not excluded).  I got a reply from Brian Harmer saying they were going to fix it.  I guess they haven't on the publicly accessible copy, though.

I really hope the printed rule book gets this right.

Nothing has been changed online because we had been getting everything ready for convention. Now that convention is over we can focus on getting the fixes to the rulebook made and sent to the printer.

As long as the minimum weights are the same, I don't see either the CRX or Del Sol as having a significant advantage in the class. I'd love to see it if for no other reason than to bolster the numbers in the class.

I agree, but unfortunately cars that came with 2 seats from the factory do get a 100lb weight penalty.  Here is the formula that was approved:

    2 Seat FWD: 1650 + 125lbs/liter
    4 Seat FWD: 1550 + 125lbs/liter

I still don't understand the reasoning behind it in a class with minimum weights and the allowed modifications that SM has, but I wrote my letter when it was proposed.

And considering we've got a '90 Si with a B series and going to 275's this year...   I think we'll still have a hard time getting much below 2000.

I would have to ballast my Scirocco up by over 150 lbs to make minimum in SMF (1975 lb minimum for my 2.0L turbo motor and currently at about 1835 in SM trim and could easily get lighter than that.)

If you've got a 90 Si and you're not under 2000 lbs with SM rules, you're not trying...

EDIT: unless you mean Prelude Si...
