245/45/16 would be a good tire for lots of cars if someone made a light, wide, readily available 16" wheel

    Even Better

Re: Car applications for Requested Tire Sizes

Are there any more cars that should be added to the list?:

225/45- 15 - Only Hankook has a competitive tire in this desired size, they have trouble keeping this size in stock.
(Hondas, Mini, NA NB Miata, MR2 spyder)

245/45-16 - People with 16" wheels are asking for a wider tire than 225.
    (S2000 AP1, BMW 3, Rx7, MR2, WRX, + many sports cars that were pre-17" dia.)

255/35-17 - Toyo has a unique short 245/35-17, but most want a short 255 size that still fits within the fenders and STR rules.
    (S2K AP2, MX-5, BMW 3, MR2, Evo, STi, etc)

285/30-18 - Yokohama is the only choice for this wider top tier tire, proven very popular size in r compounds.
    (M3s, Mustang, Porsche)

    Thanks,

Gee. Someone announces availability of new sizes of a popular tire and everybody acts like Veruca Salt.

    Big Smile

BTW, if you built a 245/40/15 I'd happily burn them up as street tires on my Miata.

I'm just happy that the tire companies are listening. Hankook is a perfect example. They popped on here a few years ago and asked us what we wanted. The concensus was a little better compound with much less void area in the 225/45/15 size. They definitely delivered and we all know how well that tire has sold.

    90 Miata - STS #90/190

If it aint broke, don't fix it.

agree! ~9" tread width & 23" OD ST tires would be great - easy Miata fit. Probably not too difficult on the front of the Civics. What else would they fit (how big is the potential market)?

I strongly like to see either of these as well. In addition to STR they would make awesome track tires!!

    Amen, brother!

23"OD x 245 or 255... that's the formula we need for STR, track, and street.

So they fit miatas and civics... too bad nobody drives those :). Also MR2s & probably RWD celicas/corollas/starlets. crxes? Neons? 510s? Other 70s/80s/'90s econobox-based track/autocross cars?

    Oh, please please please please.....

I am about to buy a pair of 235/40-17. What do you think the timeline would be on the 255/35-17 if they went ahead? I might be able to wait.

    Hi Jaker,

The new sizes listed in the first post will come out in a couple of weeks.

Dunlop US is just in the proposal stage to Japan, for requesting additional new sizes for the US market. There is some precedent, as the 205/50-15 was driven by US demand. If any additional sizes are approved, my guess would be anywhere from 6 months to a year before we see anything, due to the lengthy and expensive mold building and testing process.

So I would go ahead and buy the 235s.

I got a set of the new 14's today from Tire Rack, not sure the couple of weeks statement is 100% accurate.

website doesnt show em, but they had them at the Georgia warehouse
