The tires confirmed our conclusions last time about handling heat well. There was some noticeable drop off in grip after 4-5 runs but nothing near like a 615 or a RE01R. We are also on full treads, so shaving could help some by not retaining heat. 1st run of the 1st group, the lightly loaded rear tires of the Evo was very loose in the first half of the course. These need a bit more heat than the RE01s before they come in.
I would say on heavier cars, or cars that overwork the tires (FWD), the Dunlops could be one of the top 2 tires available at this time.
I'm in. Just ordered 215/40-17 shaved to 4/32 on Kosei K1 Racing 17x7.5 (under 17#, $149 on close out at TR)...for the rears we'll first try 195/55-15 on 7" Koseis, but have the matching pair of 17's if that doesnt work out (bought 6 wheels and 4 tires). Hope they are as good as you say.

steguis:The size (245/40/17) I want seems to be out of stock everywhere. I ended up pre-ordering it from discount tire for $580 for a set but they have no ETA. Does anyone know if anyone will have them in stock before season start in April?
They're out in that size, Dunlop USA hasn't heard when the next shipment will be. The Z1's were more popular than they anticipated.

You managed to squeeze 235-wide onto an only 6.5" wide rim? Wow, I was worried about fitting 235/40-17s onto 17x7s. Does anyone have the actual tread width for that size? The Tire Rack does not have any tread widths listed still.

The ability of an R-compound to work well in an under-rimmed situation is vastly different from the ability of a real street tire to do so due to the super-stiff sidewalls in the V710 and A6. They just don't much rim to support the tire and give effective use of the full tread surface. Kinda like a cantilever slick. Hi-po street tires aren't nearly as stiff. So "fit" and "work well" may be different in this case. --Andy

As the one who has the 235/45/17 tires on his 6.5" wheels, they worked pretty damn well last weekend. :)
Debate the fit all you want. They worked well for me. And they are HUGE.

I was in the "fit" camp on that one...and failed to clarify, as I agree with you. Poster asked about "fit"...I merely made the point that it is not unheard of for 'wide' tires to "fit" on relatively narrow wheels.

Please enlighten us to your experience with the Z1. While "worked pretty damn well" is all good, it leaves out the details like conditions, pressures, 1-2 driver (heat issues) etc.

These tires were a lot stiffer than the other Falkens, Bridgestones, and definitely stiffer in the sidewall than the Hankooks that we had to compare them to. They feel like a mid-level R-compound in perceived sidewall stiffness, both in the Official Unmounted Tire Squish Test and the driving side of it. "Worked well" was a pretty substantial jump in overall PAX for the event, substantial improvement of perceived grip and balance, and those things if nothing else increase driver confidence, which as we know can lead to faster lap times. And they were fistfulls of cash cheaper than the RE01R and Neova, so it is a winner all around. Once Tyson scrubs them in further, we'll get more data. If someone wants to donate a MaxQData unit for back-to-back testing with other brands on other wheel sizes (Z1, RE01R, RS2 all available on the same wheel), ship it to San Diego!

Conditions were in the low to mid-sixites, running 39/40 for pressures. One driver car. After they were scrubbed in on the frist couple runs, the grip level dramatically increased. Turn in was crisper, transitions were sharper; the car just felt a much higher level of grip than before (with the Hankooks or Falkens). I was told the Z1's have to heat up to work better, maybe that's why they took a couple laps to get sticky. They may have needed to be scrubbed in more also (only a couple hundred street miles on them previously).
I PAXED much higher than previously (as James stated). Also placed much better in class. I know saying they "felt" better is subjective, but overall, they are my favorite set of (autocross) street tires thus far.

I am wondering the same thing myself? I am a little leary of going to a 55, unless the sidewall is fairly/really stiff.
