    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

Hey you Cal Clubers! This is Rocky. Back into racing again, but with a new toy = MKV R32. Looking to get back into STX again too hehehe.

So, these tires look mighty interesting! But how would they compare to that new one comming soon from Kumho? When I last tried one of theirs (the MX - cause Toby said he liked them), they were horrible. And when I went to the Neova's, I got slammed by the Falken fan boyz (you know who you are!!!!! LOL), yet a few months later, they all had Neova's too. Currently, I have the RE01R's on my R32 now, but do not like them (anyone want to buy some 225/40/18's???).

Also, would I be able to fit the 235/40/18 on my 7.5 rims? Or should I stick with 225/40/18? I know I can go to 8" wide, but it is either the tires, or the rims that I can afford at the moment.

I talked with Roger at the TireRack today about the new B-Stone RE11s and the Kumho XS.  The Kumhos wont be out until mid summer at the earliest, and could be as late as Q1 2009.  He's looking into the B-Stones, but as for now knew nothing.

I went to their site but it showed them at $109 a tire, where do I look to find the deal?

$94 each, and then there is the $25 coupon off of all online orders...fingers and toes makes it $351, sorry!  That's like when TireRack had them for $80, then they were $84 the next week Sad

Thanks, Andy.   I saw the spring 08 release and it was unclear if the was Japan only or US as well...

So for 2009, looks like we can likely add the new B-Stones and the new Kumhos to the ST mix...and for this year the debate is simply to determine the rankings of Bridgestone/Toyo/Dunlop/Yokohama...

Don't give up on the Kumho XS being here in time quite yet...  A blind email to Kumho about the XS yielded the reponse:

    Good day Sir,

We look at April launch on a few sizes, not pin pointed yet.

    Regards,

    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

I just received a call from Tire Rack saying that Dunlop has discontinued the 235/40-17 Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 therefore I needed to cancel my backorder for these tires.  So much for the WRXs using the the Z1 for STX. :(

    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

I'm curious if they're going to bring the 225/45/16 to the states. They have the size in Japan, but not here. Would be excellent for my STS E30 build. The only tire currently in that size is the Hankook, and I don't know whether the difference in grip is enough to warrant having to run a 225/45/16 Hankook v. a 205/50/16 RE01R or Z1.

    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

I have run that size Hankook, and it does require some setup changes (more negative camber) and a tweak to your driving style around the softer sidewall.  I think that the Dunlop Z1 would be nearly as wide (they are big for their size) and be grippier, with a stiffer sidewall than both the 'kook and the Bridgestone.  It's a dang good tire, I am surprised we are not seeing more of them around...give it time.

    Can you post it?

I have heard "no production date, none in the country" but "discontinued" is something else entirely, like "never going to happen, ever"

I am only planning on them as summer/rain tires so maybe a 225-45-17 would be just as good for me.

I ordered some 15s for the rear...215/40-17 in front...I expect them next week.  Wont be using them for a while--still too cold here.

I've driven on MXs enough to know that a soft sidewall is something I can deal with. I just want to figure out if the Z1 will be available stateside in that size, before I have to start weighing 205 Z1s/RE01Rs against 225 Hankooks.

really the only thing i can compare it to is a set of old mounted kumho mx's.

I will be taking plenty of measurements to post up
