I have to agree with Steve...especially after he showed
me *his* setup for the DL-1. The trick here is to take some run
data back home after and event. Sit down with it and set
everything up to compare stuff like you want. Put the most
important stuff on the first "tab" in an easy-to-use fashion. Put
everything else on more tabs. Then save that as a
"template." It won't save any run data, it will just save your
current setup. Then make that your default template. After
that, it's only a couple quick clicks to load your runs and see
everything.
That said, I do admit that having to plop a CF card
back and forth isn't quite as easy as just grabbing your PDA. But
you have to worry about having a PDA, having it setup, and live with
the smaller interface, too. Obviously the other way you have to
have an entire laptop, but at least it doesn't have to be in the
car. Both have definite tradeoffs.
Personally, I don't like
looking at data between runs at an event like a Tour. I could see
where it could help, and if you have the right mindset for it,
great. For some reason I'm not comfortable bothering. I
like to decompress and that seems to help me more than seeing something
on data. However, I do really like being able to look at data
after a first day of a Tour or between run groups of a ProSolo.
Now
if Ed *really* wanted to win some hearts he'd make a filter in his
software to import DL-1 data easily and then sell that to those of us
with DL-1's (assuming it is better...given Race Technology's current
commitment to autocross that may not be hard to do!). We might be
willing to convert then. But right now there's no way I'd buy a
different system...the DL-1's software isn't simple, but it is very
powerful and once you get the hang of it isn't bad. But there's a
lot of stuff that could get in the way of someone who really just wants
to analyze and compare two autocross runs on the same course.
