Make sure you have at least 5mm of spacer (or wheel with lower offset than oem) up front...preferably a full 1/4"

on my base car, 285's rubbed the ball joint stud with 5mm...another guy had no rub with the 1/4"

Re: Are Hoosier A6's legal in stock class?

Hey Bryan, I'm the guy that bought your 295/30/19's Big Smile

Thanks for the comment on the spacers, these things are hanging me up. Confused

I've got the stock rims front and back and was planning on going with 6mm spacers up front (or 1/4") and 10mm spacers in back. (These sizes come from what you and others on the XF forum have said). I just got off the phone with Fred at Wheeladapter com and he didn't think a 10mm, "hubcentric only", spacer would work and that it needed to be "hubcentric AND wheelcentric" but, he said, that wouldn't work either. (insert autojargon here that makes no sense to me). So Confusion Reins [*-)

I've even got a tire shop telling me I should bolt a wheel adapter to the hub first, then use a spacer. No one on any forum I've visited said anything about a wheel adapter, then a spacer. This is becoming a complete pita for a non car guy. But I'm not giving up.

Any further advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Are Hoosier A6's legal in stock class?

If you are going to run the car in Stock class, you can only vary the original equipment wheel offset by 1/4" maximum, meaning those 10 mm spacers you want to run with the stock rear wheels will make the car illegal in Stock class.

Re: Are Hoosier A6's legal in stock class?

Thanks Kieth, I remember reading that a long time ago and forgot about it. Sucks bein' a newbie sometimes.

Hey Bryan, 1/4" spacer won't be wide enough in the back right?

EDIT: So not only does it suck to be a noob, sometimes it's also embarassingEmbarrassed

After reading some more on the crossfire forum I decided to go put the rears on the car. No, I hadn't done that yet, that's the embarrasing part. And guess what, they fit...just fine thank you. So it appears that there is no need for spacers to make the tires fit. The only reason, as far as I can tell, to add spacers, would be to make a wider foot print. So, the wheels in the rear are good to go, and I may add 1/4" spacers (to stay legal) to get a bit wider for AXing. Next to tackle are the fronts... I have the rims but haven't bought the A6's yet.

Re: Are Hoosier A6's legal in stock class?

yeah, you don't need or want spacers in the rear...front you'll need both the clearance and the help with grip from spacers

That's Great! Thanks again Bryan Big Smile

One more qeustion if I might; so I'm looking for 1/4" hubcentric (not hub and wheel centric), is this correct?

yes, 1/4" hubcentric spacers.  5mm will work and seem to be much more common these days, but the ball joint will cut a (harmless) groove in the inner shoulder.  Remember, you'll also need longer lug studs...I think I actually have a set in the garage if you're interested.

Hey Bryan, Yes, interested in the longer studs. Let me know if you find them and how much you'd like for them.

    Thanks
