Now I have a place to play in Prepared!

seeing that nobody has posted in the Prepared forums for awhile...

    According to the July fastrack

    Solstice GXP = FP

So what's everybody's thought on this? I've always loved the idea but don't have the heart to cut my windshield off yet.

Think it'll give the 240z's a run for their money?

     2000cc x 0.75 = 1500 lbs

    Turbo: 1500 + (.375 * 2000cc) = 2250 lbs

    With my 18x11 wheels: 2250 + 100 (over 10" width) + 100 (over 16" dia.) = 2450 lbs

no car is allowed to weigh less then 1900 lbs and no more then 2500 lbs.

It should be easy to get the car to 2450 considering it's a convertible (remove the top and windshild, but add a roll bar).

You can fit a 16" wheel on the car but... i don't think it can be much wider then the stock 8" rim or it could have UCA interference.

So what's some other first thoughts on the car in FP?

Re: Now I have a place to play in Prepared!

I think the GXP will be an awesome FP car.

    • BSP is almost always faster than FP. Your car can be 400 lbs? lighter than in BSP trim.
    • FP has the fix for the GXPs short second gear with different rear ratio.
    • Dont take out that windsheild - take out all the weight you can insidd. Thats a "point of no return, loose all your money" kind of step
    • You should be able to tune that turbo motor to be the right range without much effort.
    • I might think of going down to 18x10s if you can go down to 2350 lbs. Once you take out that weight you might not need that extra tire.
    • You have to retune the car to work with a small air restrictor specified by FP
The GXPs should be able to give the Zs a run for their money. But all that said we well built and more importantly well driven Evo 8 / 9 should be the ticket in FP.

BTW I have a underprepared BMW e36 in FP. Its basically a DSP car MINUS 500 lbs.

If I were you I would remove all the items that can be easily put back into the car, tune the car with the restrictor and a standalone and see what can be done. If theres is potential tear up that car further.

I forgot about the restrictor for the Forced Induction cars. although the 52mm resitrictor is just over 2" and I'll have to check my intake pipe (or up pipe) to the turbo, it's probably pretty close to 2" already.

More then likely i'd try to find a slightly damaged GXP and transfer the parts from my car to it. this way I wouldn't feel too bad about loosing the windshiled and such.

I think the noble in your avitar already looks pretty fun :)

Yeah, the Noble is a blast.

And hopefully, it'll have a class to play in next year.  (Write to the SEB with your support for the Noble in XP!)

The second I saw the GXP classed in FP I thought it would be a ton of fun, too, hence my clever way to answer your question...

Beating the Z's in FP is not the hard part... it's beating John Thomas in anything that is really freakin' hard!

Eliminating the 16" dia. wheel penalty has been put out for member comment ....

    The idea of a 1900 - 2000 lb RX-8 is tempting too

EDIT: ok, you saw it already ....

Don't forget the 52mm inlet restrictor  Wink

Solstice with turbo sounds like a good combo.

I have been on a mission with my 2.5 liter Boxster to make it a prepared car.  Its an FP car that I run in XP.  While down on power it moves pretty well.  I use 15x7" wheels with cantilever slicks.  I have the weight down to under 2275 lbs now and have goal to get it under 2000 lbs.  Lots of fiberglass available for Boxsters now - front hood and rear trunk lid are carbonfiber now.  I battle with lopping winsheild off too.  for now I'm leaving it on as I like to hillclimb and bring car to the track with the aluminum top on.   With Short 23" slicks I have a gearing issue that I'm trying to resolve but the Boxster is very quick for a 200 HP car with a small displacement motor. However  I certainly think a Solstice with turbo would have an advantage over my car and others even if it carried a little more weight.

Solstice turbo should be quite fun. Between this, the Z-cars and the EVO 8/9 (below) it should be a great class.
