What fun cars are being produced that fit large things in the back/trunk

In the process of considering a new car... (or new to me, and at least has some warranty left on it).

Any ideas on one that is a good driver's car, preferably a manual trans., RWD/AWD (personal pref), that could be purchased new enough to have a warranty, be under $30k, and have space inside to fit a wakeboard or bike, etc. (don't like bike racks)

    • I currently have a WRX that meets all of these choices... trying to think if there's another type of car that can also do this.
    • 370z/g37 don't have the trunk space and the g is too $
    • 135i... a year old... sounds questionable about both price and fit
    • 07 335i barely meets price.. has fold down seats... but is an extremely heavy car, isn't it?
    • RX8??? how reliable are those rotaries anyhow? ;)

I really wish they made a version of of the mazdaspeed3 or mini in awd or rwd. I really like the gas mileage on that mini...

I know the mazdaspeed6 had an awd option a few years back...

Are there any american cars that fit the bill - and have good handling? The challenger looked interesting... but is extremely heavy like the 335i.

I love my RX8--fantastic autocross/daily driven car; it has room for 4 wheels, and lots of tools/overnight bags, and the reliability is fine (100k power train warranty anyway)--but you're not fitting a bike in there!

    Maybe VW GTI?

Opps sorry, your looking for awd or rwd, so I guess the GTI is out.

It does seem like your wrx (especially if it is a wagon) fits the bill perfectly.

Audi S4 or RS4 (the latter is getting close to the price range) - especially the Avants.

Re: What fun cars are being produced that fit large things in the back/trunk

That extremely heavy 335i is a hundred pounds lighter than the G37 and about the same weight as the R32.

I have an '09 335 coupe with premium and sport packages.  Its a loaded car and automatic, about as heavy as it gets.  Doesn't feel that way in spirited street driving.  Makes a great track car.  Autocrossing it, especially on the stock runflats wasn't the greatest.  Didn't feel heavy as much as just a camber limited tractor.   Power is amazing.  Handling on a more open venue like the street or track is amazing.  The tight autox experience is just asking too much.

A Challenger is at least 500lbs heavier than a 335.   The Challenger SRT-8 on a track is pretty amazing for a more than 2 ton car.  At Willow Springs I've seen a 300 SRT-8 on street tires, embarrass a whole lot of sports cars and even race cars.

C5 Z06, but wont' fit tires in it

EVO or STi, but both will suck on gas

    Audi A4 Avant

    Audi RS6

    VW R32

RX8, good reliability, horrible on gas, no torque

Legacy GT <----this would be my pick and as a wagon too!
