OK... so I got this date right? Asphalt laid down in the fall... figured they'd have plenty of time to get things rolling by mid-summer right? Well, as I'm sure you are all aware... not so much.
But... being the optimist that I am, and with assurances from the track... I'm moving forward with the Asphalt Ventures DE & Advanced lapping Friday July 31st - Sunday August 2nd.
Knowing that most people aren't going to want to pay for an event they aren't sure will even happen, I've set up MotorsportReg.com to accept deferred payments... that means when you register, there will be a hold placed on your CC for the entry fee for a period of 24-72 hours, after which it will drop off your CC and you will not be charged. I will be in contact with the track over the next 10 days or so and re-assess where we stand. On July 10th, we will make a go/no-go decision, at which time credit cards will be charged if the event is happening.
I think I've come up with a nice little event with something for everyone:
Friday there will be two groups: 1) Advanced and Instructor lapping/recon for the new track. 2) Beginner "HPDE101"
Saturday & Sunday there will be three groups: 1) Solo/Instructor lapping, 2) Intermediate/Advanced Lapping & DE, 3) Novice DE
Professional coach Chuck Hawks will be on hand leading all classroom sessions and clinics for all levels (yes, including you instructors!)
Track time, track time, TRACK TIME!
- Friday ... open lapping drivers will have four hours to drive to your heart's content. HPDE101 attendees will have two classroom sessions and two paced lapping sessions (this would be for brand-newbies and friends/family who want a taste of what we do, but not the expense of a full-on DE event.) In the afternoon, there will be open parade laps and a course walk open to everyone.
- Saturday/Sunday ... Instructors and Solo qualified drivers will have approximately FOUR (yes, 4) hours EACH DAY. Int/Adv and Novice groups each will have two hours each day.
Fees:
- HPDE 101 (Friday only) $75
- Open Lapping (Friday only) $250
- Novice DE (All three days including HPDE 101) $449
- Novice DE (Sat & Sun only) $399
- Intermediate/Advanced/Solo (All three days... must have verifiable solo experience) $499
- Intermediate/Advanced/Solo (Sat & Sun Only) $399
- Instructor (All three days) $150 ... $50 discount if instructing during HPDE101
- Instructor (Sat & Sun only) $100 ... guaranteed 1-student only (and don't forget about the 8 hours of track time!)
- Instructor (Friday only, instructing during HPDE101) $100 off the Friday-only lapping entry price
I know that looks pretty convoluted, and I guess it is... but it'll make sense as you go through registration on MotorsportReg
So your next question of course is: What if the track doesn't open?
If we decide on or before July 10th, nothing will be charged, so you will not be obligated for anything
If we decide on July 10th that the track should be open in time, and then subsequently have to cancel due to unforseen delays, entry fees will be rolled over to a future Asphalt Ventures event (which would include any alternate dates at BMP, or one of the AV dates at Carolina Motorsports Park or Virginia Int'l Raceway.)
