If the rule had been writen this way when i was looking for a car i would have bought a 240z instead of the GXP. The GXP is great and probably faster, but there's something about the z's that gets me.

How about a beautiful body, and not unlike BMWs, the most beautiful sound (short of a V12) on earth through a tuned exhaust with a couple of megaphones. Unearthly.

Re: BSP NEEDS TO BE FIXED! SEND A LETTER!

a little off topic, but is there anyone else planning to sign up for the Nationals in BSP this year?  looks like there's only 14 registered (last yr there was 20 who competed)...wonder how many are going to sign up at the last moment??

*I just signed up w/ the hope that I can somehow skip work for a week to come out and play.  If I make it, looks like I'll be the only Z - hope to meet all of you in Topeka!

I'm still hoping that the decision is made to drop in a bunch of fun, newer also-rans from ASP into BSP to shake things up.

Re: BSP NEEDS TO BE FIXED! SEND A LETTER!

    I registered today, so i guess i'm #15 for y'all... :)

    Looking forward to it!

As far as my opinion on BSP needing to be "fixed"... well, you wouldn't have that stance if you had the faster car. Just run what you brung, and if you brought a smaller/slower gun, just be prepared to use it better if you can. If you can't use it better, than you should have brought a better gun :P

And yea, i guess i'm an outcast this year with an S2000... so talk about bringing "slow guns" :X yea, i'm all about a challenge i guess... or i'm a glutton for punishment. Either way, i'm out to have a great time 8) See you guys there!

glad to see 1 more - IMO the S2K isn't a "slow gun", one trophied last yr in BSP.  Hope to see you out there!

Re: BSP NEEDS TO BE FIXED! SEND A LETTER!

ya, its not necessarily slow, but it doesn't have that "decisive advantage" either... lol!

And to top it off, its not like i'm coming with a fully prepared and "figured out" setup either... So thats why it should be a little bit entertaining, and why i'm here for fun... itd be great to do decent, but i'm just trying to keep my hopes neutralized :) I can have a lot more fun with it that way. I am definitely looking forward to meeting a lot of you guys that i've been reading about for a long time, and hearing about... and i can't wait to run on the same course :D

but the motor is still not assembled yet... so this'll be one of those fun "last minute build" type things, where i'll probably show up and it won't run or something... haha! j/k... i should be able to make it to at least 1 or 2 events before ending up there.

Is there an event somewhere near Topeka that would be good to go to on the weekend prior that maybe some others go to traditionally?

This thread isn't helping BSP I can tell you that.

It helped convince me to stay in STU.

I'm not sure I follow your thinking...based on current rules, cars like your Evo are the answer for the continued viability of BSP. If the class can't attract participants with the most effective tools for the job, the situation is really beyond salvage...

Next year I may make the jump. Last year I was on the fence and this thread which lead to a FastTrack proposal was a factor in not moving. Wasn't going to prep a car if it was going to become uncompetitive the next year like what happened when the Evo got bumped to AS.  Obviously there's always the risk of that happening, but when you have Andy Hollis endorsing the idea in Grass Roots Magazine it's not really a good bet to make. Glad to see the Evos still in BSP and I hope to be there soon!

I'll bet they probably won't come either if that happens. SCCA just alienates cars/people, those people move to other clubs and or quit altogether.

I actually like the 4wd's, but I believe they should have their own class, then let's see if they can make the minimum numbers.

Re: BSP NEEDS TO BE FIXED! SEND A LETTER!

I think part of the issue is current cost of participation.  Neither the evo or the Sti are inexpensive to own, build or campaign.  Nevermind all 3.  Look at BSP entries for the upcoming nationals, there's only 3 or 4 of them (when you look at codrivers).

It seems as if SS, in a C5 Z06 anyway, has become more popular as the cars cost has come down.

I gotta say, it seems like it would be unlikely that it's a cost of car issue. STU is 90% evos and sti's and they're up to 35 entrants right now. The cost of construction of a nationally competitive car for either is fairly close. I'd say the barrier to entry would have more to do with the secondary items required to run SP, like a tow vehicle and trailer except a large portion of the nationally competitive STU cars are actually trailered to events and run on tires that are only used for racing.

It really could just be that people don't want to invest in moving up to BSP when they know they will have to run against Tom in an extremely well setup car.. I guess the real test for that would be to ask the question, "Would more people be signed up if it was just Marshall driving the Showcase Evo?"

I wouldn't let one guy / car scare me off.  The question I have is, how much to turn an STU car into a BSP car?  I don't think you can compare the STU build cost to a BSP build.

Aftermarket clutch, a retune for high boost, spring swap/damper revalve, tires. It's actually pretty damn close and i'm pretty familiar with both cars at this point. I'd say for 3 grand or so Rick Jung could probably swap his car from STU to BSP and be reasonably close to the Berry Evo.

There are some other things you can do, but an STU evo would be reasonably competative whith those changes.
