how competetive is a shifter kart?

hey everyone. I was curious as to how competitive a 125cc shifter kart is after PAX in open tire. anyone have any idea? I'm going to be getting one soon to road race, and I was most likely going to start autoX'ing it as well. that, and I have some plans for my MR2 that would take me WAY out of stock class, so that's going to be uncompetitive as hell...maybe...

They can be very competitive. Jeremiah McClintock was 5th out of 1000+ drivers in PAX at Nationals last year, and he's accomplished a number of similarly high finishes that don't immediately come to mind. The F125 PAX got hit a little more than most classes for 2009, but it can absolutely be in the mix.

Who cares about PAX.  Shifters are dang fast. It's worth the price of admission even if you are DFL in pax with FTD.

I do. I'd like to at least be competitive as far as the overall results go. I just can't wait to get it going. maybe I can take an open tire trophy or two before the season is out. ;D

    Joe,

I plan on beating Drew in one regularly. It will be awesome if we both have one for some direct competition. I know we've talked about this before but I'm excited and can't help it. Haha.

oh yea! I can't wait to lay waste to your wimpy little Lotus with my $5k "toy". :P j/k...the Lotus is mega sexy. but yea, it would be REALLY neat for us to be racing each other directly! :D don't stomp on me too hard...

On a completely unrelated note, for the 2009 season we'll be introducing the "speed bump" course element on the fast sections, to keep things safe.

In that case, I suggest the following completely logical rule change:

" 'Speed bump' elements are optional for black 350Zs or obscenely yellow Mustangs (or any other vehicle that anyone with the last name of Becker might be driving)."

That rule isn't any more ridiculous worded than most of the other rules in the national solo rulebook.

In that case I'll just drive around the speed bump and then come back through any elements I might have missed to avoid a DNF. As long as you don't put the speed bump in a gate (which is defined by two stand up cones with a pointer on both sides).

With maybe 3" of ground clearance, the Mustang won't clear speed bumps of any kind anyway...

Hey Drew when are you accepting registration for the May event?

Got a crew of Southerners ready to come up to Columbus and give it a go.

Looks pretty damn competitive after this weekend I would say.  You got to be able to drive the hell out of it though.  Good job brian.
