Lime Rock Repaving- National Three Weeks Away

    http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/alms-pruett-thursday-lime-rock-blog/

"ALMS Meets Formula Drift at Lime Rock?

Flying Lizard engineer Stefan Pfeiffer and driver Jorg Bergmeister spent part of Thursday assessing the newly paved track and came away with the same conclusion everybody else had: the surface needs more time to cure and harden.

“You can dig your fingers into the track pretty easily,” Jorg said. “It has a sand-like consistency…I imagine we’re going to be driving on marbles the whole time, but everybody will have to deal with it, not just us, so that’s OK. But it should be, uh, ‘interesting.’”

We’ll see what the massive amounts of torque from the Audi’s will do to the track, and how they’ll deal with sliding and drifting throughout the Connecticut countryside.

If the track falls apart as many expect it to,
car control and driving skills will be at a premium. Expect the teams with the most sophisticated traction control electronics to fare well."

Should be interesting to see what is left of the track for the National in three weeks.

Thats why most tracks paving schedule allows the asphalt to cure over the winter months.  They could help the new asphalt by putting down a fine layer of powdered cement (not concrete).  If the asphalt can be dug up with fingers it sounds like they dont have a large enough roller compressing it.

OK, so let me get this straight. Surface is ass, breaking up... marbles, crappy, etc. So they repave to make a nice shiny new surface that will last a few more years.... but don't give it time to cure properly resulting in a surface that is breaking up, has marbles and is crappy. In the immortal words of Guinness, BRILLIANT!

Re: Lime Rock Repaving- National Three Weeks Away

The morning sessions today went pretty well.  There was a pretty big off (Ford GT done for the day/weekend), and that was said to be due to concrete curbs not holding up---hard to believe as all the curbs I saw were in great condition.  It appeared to me that the track was holding up incredibly well.  And the uphill and West Bend sections were constructed at the highest caliber.  The Uphill looked like simething worth trying, something I thought I'd never say.  West Bend has a way slow re-entry onto the old track that means it will be no fun.  Running the old track with the new in place will be interesting--especially the track-out from West Bend which is now an island between new and old tracks.

I'd give the track an A+, will be interested to run it on a test day soon.

All in all, it looked great......    Leapin' Lizards, do I see Black Helicopters?  Huh?

After watching the race coverage, and talking to people who were there, it sounds like the track held up great.  I have to say that I am shocked!  Kudos to the contractor that Skippy hired to pave the place.  It sounds like Summit Point should have hired these guys!

Does anybody know which configuration the National is using in three weeks- "classic" or revsed?

    Somewhat off topic:

Will I be penalized for registering for a race and not showing up? I wrecked pretty bad at Watkins Glen and am unsure if the car will be fixed in time for LRP.

To answer my own question- I just read the supps and it calls out the original "Classic" configuration to be used.

CKEvo:  I would just contact the registrar (number and/or e-mail should be on the supps), and ask to officially withdraw from the event.  Explain what happened up at the Glen, and there should be no issue.  Do it right away so that you give them plenty of advance notice and don't give them a reason to try to hold a portion of your entry fee!
