    Re: Toyota problems

This past January, two major brake problems have surfaced with other automakers yet no main front page coverage. Chrysler Group recalled 24,177 vehicles due to a potential defect in a brake system that could result in sudden brake failure. The recall applies to 2010 model-year Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Avenger and Nitro, and Jeep Liberty, Commander and Grand Cherokee SUVs, as well as 2009-2010 model year Dodge Ram trucks.

Ford Motor Company said on Thursday it would fix up to 17,600 hybrid sedans that could suffer braking problems on their Fusion and Milan models. Ford knew about these defects for months and did not do anything about it!

The very fact that Chrysler Group and Ford's brake problems have not even gained an ounce of media attention lately is evident enough of a smear campaign against Toyota's image and reputation.

    Re: Toyota problems

"saying he no longer wanted it because of the recall on the accelerator"

Another moron out there that can no longer afford his Tundra, never had problems with it before until all of a sudden he hears of a sticky pedal issue and then crashes it and claims the pedal at fault!

Not buying it.  I visited the dealer recently to price a 2010 Tacoma and they got a call from some lady that wanted to sue because a while back her RAV-4 hit the back of the garage and was trying to claim the sticky pedal.  Sure, when you thought you put it in reverse but had it in drive and hit the garage...

Some people are trying to cash in on this.  Desperate people will do anything...

The DOT just issued a STOP DRIVING alert

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35216587/ns/business-autos/

Transport chief: Stop driving recalled Toyotas
Transportation Secretary LaHood advises owners to seek repair at dealers

WASHINGTON - Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is telling owners of recalled Toyotas to stop driving the vehicles and get them fixed.

LaHood's warning came Wednesday in testimony before a House Appropriations subcommittee on transportation. LaHood says his advice to owners is to "stop driving it. Take it to a Toyota dealer because they believe they have a fix for it."

Toyota's most recent recall in the United States affects 2.3 million vehicles with the potential for sticking gas pedals.
Story continues below ↓advertisement | your ad here

LaHood told reporters earlier in the day that Toyota owners should contact their dealer immediately and "exercise caution until repairs can be made."

Lahood also said he plans to speak with Toyota President Akio Toyoda about the automaker's spate of recalls in the United States. LaHood confirms that the government is investigating potential electrical problems in Toyota vehicles.

DOT Secretary Ray LaHood made damaging statements "stop driving it" about the affected Toyota's yet the next day he retracted that statement and claimed "obvious a misstatement."

That is nothing short of a classic political move to send misstatements to spin out of control within the media and later retract those statements after the damage has already been done in the public's mind.

After all who owns the Chrysler Group and GM?  That would be the federal government!

Who is the UAW loyal to?  That would be democrats like Obama!

Who does the DOT Sec. report to?  That would be Obama!

    Get the picture now?

    Re: Toyota problems

Not the picture YOU get. Gas pedals ARE hanging on floor mats. Throttle electronic assemblies ARE causing problems. Customers don't know how to put a car in neutral if the throttle is jammed. I don't like Toyota, but they are dealing with this about as aggressively as they can including pushing dealers to keep their service departments open 7-24 to modify the affected assemblies. As for dealerships pursuing "recall" Toyotas is NOT the thinking of just GM. I have seen those sort of signs up at just about every dealership I drive past. They would be STUPID if they didn't !!!!!!!!!

For the street I run 2 floor mats on my Tacoma, my OEM original and an aftermarket one to protect the OEM one.  I even ripped off the factory hooks on the original ones because of taking them out all of the time.

Yet how come I have had no problems with floor mats?  I have driven Toyota's for over 15 years and I can tell you this is an absurd issue that a Lexus (inexperianced driver) crash and a money hungry lawyer has fueled into something bigger that holds no merit in the real world!

With damaging statements by the DOT Sec. (warrented enough for resignation and I hope Toyota calls for it when the time presents itself) to spin the accusations into the national spotlight and then later retract those statements (classic political move) only after the damage was done (you bought it, so sad).

I am still waiting for the national news about the Chrysler Groups brake failures recently and Ford's brake problems similar to the Prius with no coverage!

I forsaw the federal government that owns GM and the Chrysler Group an opportunity to go after non-union Toyota (with NUMMI closing) and target them to help their sagging domestic brands the federal government controls and owns!

I am behind Toyota and if you ask the REAL Toyota owners out there, they would agree with my position.  The moron owners that can no longer afford theirs or jump ship ever so often with brands are the ones trying to get a quick buck off this issue.  This is so sad about the health of society here in the U.S.

    Spin, baby, spin.

Nummi's closure was a mutual decision as there was nothing left to produce.

UAW is loyal to ........... wait for it ...................... ITSELF !!!!!!!!!!!!

Toyota owners are now split into TWO types? Apparently. There are those that can't drive and/or don't know how to operate their vehicles, and then there are REAL Toyota owners. And the Republican party has the Palin Tea Party folks and then all those other misguided miscreants that don't know they are wrong. And then we are now made aware that ones sense of ownership is the yardstick of the health of society in the US.

Here's a reality check ............... Toyotas are just motor vehicles. Nothing more, and nothing less. Sheesh.

"Nummi's closure was a mutual decision as there was nothing left to produce."

    Mutual decision?

GM could no longer afford running NUMMI with Toyota, they were bankrupt.  As soon as Toyota took over they made a sound business decision (why pay high Cali taxes) to shut NUMMI down and move production to Texas, a non-union plant.

NUMMI produces the best selling small pickup in the U.S., the Tacoma as well as the Matrix/Vibe.

Toyota's recalls lately are politics by the federal government that owns GM and the Chrysler Group and gets campaign funding (democrats like Obama) from the UAW.  Let alone Toyota shutting their only UAW plant in the U.S.

    Re: Toyota problems

If you are "into" smear campaigns or government interference in the Toyota problem, "some" could make a case for "republicans covered up the Toyota problem" to help break the unions". Stick out tongue

FYI I've seen the Toyota "we screwed up" ad three times now. It is well done. I hope they do recover the public's trust quickly (they will, it is just how long does it take) and fix whatever internal problems allowed this problem. Note, I bought a Toyota Corona brand new in 1966. My parents have owned one or two Toyotas ever since. I have absolutely no problem with Toyota.Stuff happens. I just think the "government" is out to get Toyota idea is totally off base.Smile

State Farm says it first warned safety agency about Toyota accelerators in 2007

    By Peter Whoriskey
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Tuesday, February 9, 2010; A01

The nation's largest auto insurer alerted federal safety regulators on numerous occasions starting in 2007 about a rise in reports of unexpected acceleration in Toyotas, according to the insurer, State Farm.

The warnings, from a firm that maintains a vast store of crash data based on its customer base of more than 40 million, followed a stream of consumer complaints about the alleged defect. Regulators received the warnings more than a year before they pressed the automaker to issue recalls affecting millions of cars and trucks.

Congressional investigators are now focusing on whether the government reacted properly to years of complaints and other evidence regarding the acceleration problems.

The insurer's warnings to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are likely to add to criticism that the agency missed or overlooked signs of trouble.

"When we see something that might be helpful, we pass it along," said Dick Luedke, a State Farm spokesman.

Toyota has faced criticism for not notifying consumers about suspected problems with the brakes on its Prius right away, but Ford waited until Thursday to announce possible braking issues though it had known about them for months.

I am still waiting for the federal government to open investigations into why Ford did not fix their problem after they knew about it for months!

I recall no statements from the DOT Sec. yet, still waiting............................................zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Wow.... you hump toyota much?  Wait... you must be employed by them.  First off the Ford recall is not because of brake FAILURE, it for brake feel that customer PERCEPTION is the brake transition from regen to hydraulic gives them the feel they are not working when even though they are.

The big issue here, for me, is the fact that toyota has been A.) hiding the information for years and 2.) their quality has been tanking for 10 years and no one has seemed to care, until now.  The las toyota was trashed at 90k miles, needed several THOUSAND in repairs and caught fire while driving it.  After working the back room parts for them, handing out 3.0L v6's like they were water, camry headgaskets and a plethora of other small crap that my cheapo Korean cars have NEVER had problems with, I'd say they got too big for their britches.

Say it ain't so !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Apparently the US government IS all powerful. Toyota has now recalled almost a half a million Prius'. (What is the plural for Prius? Prii?) Wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!! That means Prius production BEFORE the 2010 model run.

What is that strange odor? Hm ......................................... Oh, just Oxi's hair catching on fire. Did you drink ALL the Cool Aide? If not, pour the rest under your Toyota hat.

Did you hear about the Ford problem with their brakes?

Ford offers fix for Fusion hybrid brake glitch

    http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/reuters/100205/us/usreport_us_ford_fusion

Now why isn't this national news?  Heck maybe all hybrids on the road suffer the same problems but I do not see the DOT Sec. calling for investigations on all hybrids, he is busy trying to downgrade Toyota to help their company GM and Chrysler Group gain sales!

I love a free enterprise system NOT a socialist/communist government controlled one!

    Re: Toyota problems

The 3.0L has been a horrible engine for Toyota, ask any long-term Toyota owner.

Toyota refined their V6 and came out with the 3.4L where you never hear of any problems and the new 4.0L again with no issues out there!  I have the 4.0L V6 and that is one well designed motor.

Ford still has a brake problem with their hybrids and new about it last year and did not act on it.  So where is the DOT Sec. to lash out at them?  Oh wait, too busy trying to save 2 of the auto companies they own so any negative publicity of Toyota would benefit their cause, market share and profitabilty of their brands that the government owns.  Get the picture now of why I am upset at all of this socialism in the auto industry?

Toyota got pinned and cannot lash back out at the federal government because they not only regulate the auto industry at the same time they own 2 of the 3 U.S. brands, they have power and infuence over the national media, and don't think they don't, they do.  That's the problem I see here!
