How easy is it to export data so you can look at other people's data. As Will said, that'd be hugely helpful to see what fast people are doing!

Very simple. I just dump the runs on to my laptop. The laptop software comes with the device or I think you may be able to download it from MaxQ. I can either view my runs on my PDA or I can wait and look at them on the computer. If I want to exchange data with someone it's as easy as e-mailing them the run file(s).

^^This. If you just look at your own runs, it is helpful. If you can compare with someone else (best case scenario in the same car, or similar car), then it becomes an exponentially better tool.

The GPS data is tremendously helpful to both me and Brian to see what elements of a course we are better than each other....and then coach each other to "clean up" each others trouble areas.
I really think it helped me become a better driver by seeing exactly where I was getting my arse kicked. What may have taken years in the past to figure out, can be at your fingertips instantly. It's a brilliant device.

That was my point to compare to Geoff, Gus, and Harold to see what they're doing and where and what I'm doing, most likely wrong, in the same areas

I don't have that one...I just posted that because someone wanted to include video and that will capture video and overlay all your data on it. I use a data-only system hooked to a Windows Mobile device. It's pretty easy to use, just takes a little practice to be able to get something useful between runs. Having the full size monitor with the PC version of chart (free) is very nice for after the event, but MaxQ's power comes between runs when compared to competing systems.

BTW, my MaxQData numbers were quite suprising. On my last run I was getting sustained G's in the 1.10 to 1.15 with a few going as high as 1.2  and peak readings of 1.25 in a few spots and a freaky reading of 1.38 in the corner after the slalom. My speed through the slalom was right at 47-48mph.

Kevin, Marshall, and I only had 3 corners on course with readings above 1.00 gs..  My freaky reading was also in the corner after the slalom at 1.17, but that was only on 1 of 9 runs recorded between myself, kevin and marshall.

I struggled with overdriving all day!  My car was a terribly pushy pig that I couldn't seem to get in my head.  I was late in the brakes all day.  Fun regardless..

I was doing the same 47-48 mph in the slalom.

My thoughts on the maxQ...  It's good, and shows me exactly where I'm slower, or inconsistent between runs.  The catch for me is that I know that anyway just from retracing me steps after each run.  I'm not saying I'm going to get rid of it, but it's use isn't an absolute need.  I'm willing to share mine upon request as long as were in different run groups from time to time.

I'd be really curious to try it out once too sometime, if there were a way to do it within the same class - mostly as a comparison of the different car types.

I have been thinking about getting a Max Q so that I don't have to bum Nick's, but you have to have a lot of time on your hands to dig through the data.  IMO you just find out what your gut already told you on your runs.  There have been few occasions where I was fast where I thought I was slow, or slow where I thought I was fast...and it was useful there.  Nick spends a lot of time going through the data, but I think the information has limited value.  I certainly don't have the time nor the patience to go through and compare runs like that after an event.  It is a neat tool though if you can control other variables.

 I think it would be very useful for a 2 driver car, but only after race day.  It is useless the day of...

Feel free to give recommendations if you see things I can work on. I thought I did pretty well, but I could have cleaned it up a bit, for sure.

I really like the feel of my car now with the wide Kumho XS's. I think a combination of me getting a little better and the car gripping better (except in the rain) make the M3 feel pretty solid now. I have a GC front swaybar on the way. I also have stiffer springs that I have held off installing as I am not sure I want to give up ride comfort.

Where the MaxQ could be useful on the day of (and certainly after the event) is on course elements that have options and the best answer isn't clear.  Left or right on a pin turn or slalom, etc.  For example, I used GEEZ (an accelerometer based system from early in this decade) to provide data to tell me if the MINI was better wound out in 1st gear or low in 2nd gear at the Aussie where the course is always right between the gears for that car.

 Who's got the system now, for file swapping purposes after events?

Exactly. If I hadn't have gotten screwed up on which run was which because of my re-run I would have determined that Will's line through one single turn on the course last Sunday was an entire 1/2 second faster than my line and would have quit driving the slow line

 That's what I was getting at.  Yes, the software ("Chart") can be downloaded free from their web site.  Nick and I have been sharing files this season.  I was just wondering who else is taking data besides the folks I listed and the occasional borrower of either Nick's or my system.
