Drew if i had some tires, I'd offer you a ride, but it looks like if i come, I'm going to be asking the same question... anyone else looking for a co-driver?

Just trying to get some Seat Time!

86 Mustang GT - maybe one day it will be fast!

Re: May 9-10 autocross: Columbus Air Force Base

oh, I just forgot about the thread. I've autoX'ed a Miata and a 2nd gen N/A MR2 (both ES), and I decided that the MR2 was better for autoX'ing than the hairdressers car.while both cars are really good at autoX'ing, the MR2 just suited me better than the Miata.

if it's modified, I can't do much with that, but I was comparing ES class Miata to ES class MR2. and no, the pic didn't make me fear the R/C cars. is "secretaries cars" a more acceptable term?... Wink

and I should be in full swing with my kart at Grenada...hopefully, anyway.

    Joseph.

Re: May 9-10 autocross: Columbus Air Force Base

On Saturday Darren put down the top CSP time, FTD, and fast PAX, and then gave me some tips on how I could highlight my hair to really compliment my eyes. Our own Rob Pendergest didn't make it easy, though. Certainly glad to see some fast guys from other regions come out.

    As for today...

It was about 9:40, the course was set up, and everybody was in the computer from the previous day. There were eight of us at the site, so with rain approaching we turned folks loose on fun runs. About 20 minutes in, the rain came. We ran for about an hour and a half in the rain, all fun-run-style, and then packed it up. I hate that you guys missed Sunday's course, because it was a blast. Remember Saturday's? Today's was the antithesis: very open and flowing, with lots of fast sweepers.

We'll get together a list of the people who paid for two days but only ran Saturday and you'll get a free day in the future. If you paid for two days but for whatever reason don't plan on autocrossing with us in the next year or so, let us know and we'll figure out how to refund you.

I'll get Saturday's results posted this evening or (more likely) tomorrow.

Sunday's course was designed by The Crazy Cajuns led by me this time.

Got one run hope it will stand the test of the timer.  I know I left at least 2 seconds out there and was about to let it rip when the sky opened up and rained something terrible.

No sense puttting Darrens Super cool Miata through that.  Packed it up and headed home as some drivers were just arriving to the site.Confused

Thank you all for your hospitality, good dinner, and fun event.  Rain was a disappointment, but didn't damper the weekend IMHO.

Re: May 9-10 autocross: Columbus Air Force Base

Big thanks to Pensacola Ed for letting me drive his Miata. And to West Point Ed, for doing the same on Saturday. But the CSP Miata was a blast, even on street tires and in the rain. I can only imagine what it's like on the 275 Hoosiers.

    Sorry about plowing those cones...

I drove Rob's WRX for a few runs in the rain and it was great. I always hated autocrossing in the wet, but now I realize I just didn't have the right car. I drove Preston's car and was literally laughing for a good 1/4 of the run about how much power was on tap. Mark my words, if that car gets a proper suspension and wheels/tires it'll dominate in street tire. On Saturday's fun runs I believe Preston put down a time that would have won street tire by over a second.

For any of the Delta or Cenla Peeps that are concerned about the long drive being worth it.  MS region event are definately worth the effort.

Very relaxed bunch of guys and gals. 6 runs are the norm and the site is fast  Like Bell Chase fast without the trees.  and no breeze heat!!!!  Great grippy concrete that gets sept routinely.

Thanks to all the MS region regulars for a great event.  next time see what you can do about the rain.

Re: May 9-10 autocross: Columbus Air Force Base

Yeah, I jumped in on 1 fun run and ran a clean 1:072 after murdering cones on practically all of the runs that actually counted. Things always seem a bit easier when the pressure isn't on (probably why sunday was so much fun as well.) Granted, I did alter the start a bit to my advantage. In regards to the subaru, it will have a decent set up by the end of summer without a doubt. Drew, if you'd like to help me get the parts installed as I get them in, and pitch in for gas/tires, you're welcome to co-drive for the rest of the season.

I think Drew should co-drive the Geo Metro.    All in favor say "Yea".

Preston, give me a heads up and I'll certainly help out with installation and pay for my consumables in exchange for a seat.

    I almost forgot... Saturday's results:

    PAX
    Final

Also, here are the final "results" from Sunday, although not much should be taken from them. People were swapping cars, the weather went from dry to downpour, cones were ignored, we got rolling starts, etc. Sunday will not count as an event for the purposes of year-end points.

Oh, wow.  I totally thought I finished well down in Street Tire.  I would have stuck around for trophy announcements had I known.  I for one am happy Preston didn't get his clean run until it didn't count.  :)

Re: May 9-10 autocross: Columbus Air Force Base

Thanks for everything MS guys.  I always have a blast when I come up there.

I hate rain, too bad it cut the fun short.  but most of us had fun in it anyway.  I lost count of how many times I ran and rode sunday.  thanks Ed (miata) and lingfeng (Eclipse).

BTW don't ask us coasties to do course setup again.  we just can't compute on that much space.  and it really screwed us in the second heat not having "practice" runs like the first heat guys.  my second fun run (6th run) would have put me a tenth off darren.Crying

yeah and sundays course was awesome.  joe can make claim to it, but skip had final say and did make modifications to make it way fast.

I am sure I will be back, see ya'll then
