Oh....and the delay in the middle of the first heat's runs when T&S had to hold start.....my bad. I unintentionally crashed the timing program. Clearly user error. Angry Good thing Chris had been keeping up with the manual audit sheet (that's why we have that, and it needs to be accurate!).

Indeed. The computer helped me correct the sheet a couple of times as well. Jay talks too much. Devil

    Re: Today's event...

    GREAT job to ALL!!

The morning moved very efficiently, and looked extremely professional.  It's very easy to see the big focus on organization this year.  To me that translates to more runs!!

     - Dave for getting an ill working BUS to the site. (
     - Will & Pauletta for getting a big crowd of people through registration very quickly.
     - Geoff and all for having a course setup very early.
     - Kevin, I loved the course!
     - Ron, seperating the novices is a great idea, and worked very well.  I would have loved the extra attention as a novice.
     - Dave, Phil & Lee for making a very tough knowingly "unpopular" correct decision.
     - Shahab, ::sarcasm:: for taking pictures of every other STU car.  ::sarcasm:: Stick out tongue
     - Everyone else that I haven't mentioned.  You know who you are, sorry I didn't specifically say your name.

Sitting in grid, I looked at my clock and it was 10:18..  The time I saw the first car leave the line!  18 minutes off the scheduled start given the 'da bus was an hour behind, and the first event to knock the cobwebs off.  To me that's success!

A little off topic.  Will any of the times get posted? (given that it was just a fun event anyway)  I expect not, but thought I'd ask.

I know it's already been mentioned and I should have said it before but I'm gonna say it again.

Dave, fantastic job of getting the bus to the event! The bus breaking down in anyone elses hands could have easily killed the event for the day. I know I certainly couldn't have figured out how to get it running enough to make it to the site.  Beer to you!

I am sure they will get posted.(EDIT: I type too slowly. Thanks, jww.) Only the worker invite doesn't get posted as those times are not getting logged anywhere. Will and Chris didn't go to all that trouble not to post it up. We just gotta be patient. (I am really curious to see what the PAX looks like with my new value. And, I want to see how close that battle atop STU was. 0.001 seconds?)

I really liked the course too. It had some nice subtly tricky areas - like coming through the off camber turn to wide offsets. I lost a lot of time there, but I liked it and I got better as I went. The turn around was well shaped to challenge drivers to treat it as a sweeper all the way past the first cone of the slalom. And the finish was really nice. Just confusing enough to keep you on your toes and surprisingly fast. I am glad the garage was pretty opened up - made it look hard, but it really wasn't. Nothing harsh or forced - just nice simple, clean design.

Holy cow it was .001 seconds separating Nick and Kevin. Nice job squeeking that out, Nick. STU is on fire - top 4 PAX spots.

what- what - what?....  4th place in PAX - is there a misprint or something... Surprise I am not sure I have ever been in the top half even... mmm, I like STU pax.

I just wanted everyone to see that I chewed up and spit Kevin out by a full 4 second margin.  Wait.  That's a misprint!!!  .001 difference.  Really..  Is .001 even measurable?!

Great job Jason.  Monster truck tires FTW!

I only questioned if they were going to be posted since the event was called...

    Re: Today's event...

Thanks Geoff for the kind words.

I was REALLY looking forward to attacking that off-camber turn. I wanted to see how much i could scare myself there and still smoothly make the transition throught that right-hand gate.

Can we do that course again sometime? I was stoked about it. Thought it was one of the better designed courses we had for 16th in a while.

    Re: Today's event...

Definitely a great job getting the bus running. I doubt hardly anyone else could have done that.

Do we have (or should we consider) some kind of backup plan if it breaks down again and Dave's master skills can't get it running on the side of the road? Could we fit everything in a pickup (or 2)?

Its got my vote for another event - if not this year, next year maybe? I suppose it is more a question for those that didn't get some 'practice' on it already though.

(now I am getting really nervous about trying to design a course this year... )

Unfortunately we can't this season. I already have course designers booked for the rest of the season. We don't yet have a course designer for the Worker Invitational so if you guys want to use this course for that event, let me know.

I'm thinking I should go to a board meeting to lobby for the club to start planning for a replacement for "Da Bus". IMO, we should have started planning for this a few years ago. But, not having spoke to the board about it, I don't know if they already have a plan in place for replacement or not. I strongly feel it is something we should be looking into.

Don't worry about it. I'm planning on helping.

    Re: Today's event...

It is a good thing the event was a cancelled fun run, because I was going to protest Nick.  He had a 10 foot arm that comes out before the finish line to trip the beams.  Ha ha...funny thing is I drag raced in the NHRA SC Series and someone in my class actually did that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stick out tongue

Jason - Nice runs man.  I honestly didn't think the M3 would have that in it on a course like that.  Don't give all the credit to the tires.  44.0 was not slow on that course and it grabbed my attention.  I better get it together.

Will....I'd be interested in working registration and getting my work assignment done early!  I'll check in next event.  I can learn puter stuff fast.

It is something that should be discussed. The real question is can the Region replace 'Da Bus for the kind of money it has in 'Da Bus and wind up with something better?

The fundamentals of 'Da Bus are still sound. Structurally it's still for the most part in tact. Yes the sub-flooring is rusted away, and the roof leaks, but except for some "Ford" issues like it's having now, it's still mechanicly good.

It has decent compression, good oil pressure, the transmission shifts properly, rear end is quiet. There are some small electrical issues but they've mostly been dealt with over time. Right now, a new diverter valve and blocking off the EGR will solve it's current problems. It's a typical problem with Ford emission control systems from the era. I'm just upset with myself for not catching it over the winter when I had it in the shop servicing it.
