Re: high rpm + no oil = an LT4 explosion
It's not that I have a problem with it, it's the fact that southeastern Wisconsin has a problem with it. It's only a matter of time before Miller Park gets sound regulations and when they do I can guarantee that this car will not pass. I'm just preparing for the future. Besides, the exhaust system was something the previous own cobled up at 3 AM the night before a race it looks like, there's about 18 inches of glass pack casing, with only about 6 inches of fiberglass glass pack. I'm just trying to decide on a decent muffler right now, I think I've got the rest of the system figured out.
It's going to an interesting season...

Re: high rpm + no oil = an LT4 explosion
turtle_neon: BMoore:Well, it's alive and semi leak free. There's still one small pesky drip I'm trying to track down, but the car is 180 miles in to it's 500 mile break in period. It's still loud, but i'm working on designing a new exhaust system as we speak. One project at a time.
the exhaust was half the fun on that car! keep it!!!!!! good to hear it's back and alive again
I agree with the Moores, There is always the potential of people complaining about the noise level and I for one didn't want to be the cause of it so I put a Flowmaster on my Camaro last year (Damn I must be getting old.). Personally I like the deep sound that it gives me. So far I haven't gotten back to the dyno to confirm if I've lost any power.

Re: high rpm + no oil = an LT4 explosion
FWIW - we will probably be adding a sound limit to the Milwaukee Region supps sometime this season. Our hope is to start taking sound measurements as per Appendix I, and get people used to looking at the numbers. We haven't settled on a number yet, but I'm pushing for 103 dBA, the same as it will be at the Nationals Championships this year.

As a previous offender, I support this idea 100%. BTW 103 db is pretty loud and probably won't affect many people, but I can think of one car in particular that it will affect, well make that two, but the Vette is being "fixed" ;)

Re: high rpm + no oil = an LT4 explosion
I believe the Vette was clocked at 110+ dB at the National Tour last year, and we knew the sound limit was coming. Magnaflow was one option, Spintech was another, flowmaster has always looked a touch too restrictive for me. We've got Pypes on the Nova and they sound good and are completely straight through.
It's going to an interesting season...

I don't know about that. The 80 series just has a couple of baffles in it to reflect the sound and direct the exhaust out 2 exit points. Doesn't appear to restrictive, but like I said, I need to dyno it to be sure.

Funny! I wasn't even thinking about your car Tracy, but I am thinking of a 4 banger.

Kevin Wallace had a good link on V8 exhaust info. Jeff
