This year, the first five games, attendance was a mere average of 84,931 per game. Or two thirds the population of Topeka. Smile

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Solo Finals ......... MOVED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On Google Earth, there is an feature on the program called "Street View".   The pictures that are used for this part of their program are more recent pictures than the ones used for the overhead views.

To get to street view - at the top of the Google Earth page, there is a Icon next to the Printer Icon - Click on it to go to "View in Google Maps".   This opens up another window showing showing the a map of the same area.   At the top of this page, click on Street View and the streets that are included in the Street VIew program will turn to Blue.   Also you will see a little Yellow Man.

Move the "little man" to the area you want to see and click on him, and it will open another window at eye level.   You can use this to get a closer look and walk around the area.    Well, not all of the area - - you can't actually walk out on the pad, but you can get right next to it.

Hope I explained how to get there!   It is a pretty cool feature of Google Earth.

From the viewpoint of this typical member, the SCCA seems to be really good about finding ways to keep messing things up.  Not here though!  Many thanks from the pilot of a big fat wide car.Party!!!

Now I'm hoping we can get some nice big courses on that nice big lot.  I tend to favor courses that drive like small road courses and less like a bad trip through a parking garage.  In my mind autocross is meant to be something of a  "practice" from which some will one day graduate to road courses.  I realize not everyone shares this opinion.

Pretty amazing, as I zoomed in on Lincoln in Google Maps, could see the lot stick out like a (blissfully) sore thumb.

Re: 2009 Nationals and Pro Solo Finals ......... MOVED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How big is that place? Nebraska Region laid out the "large" course from 1999 Nationals (I think that was correct). An Evo instructor was there and "complained" that it was hard to pick up the course because it was so spread out !!!!! And there was enough room for ANOTHER big course, and a drag strip, and an ultra light landing strip, and a picnic area, and the Goodyear blimp landed and we barely saw it!!!!!!!! And that was just the proposed grid area.

Seriously, the parts about the size of the course and the Evo instructor's comment were true. And there was plenty of room for anothe big course plus grids for both. Roughly 1600 X 1200, and it could easily expanded out to have 1600 X 1400 (about 56 acres).  Then part of it could have been expanded to the north. The pad at HPT is about 21 acres plus the crowded remote grids.

Anyone have the address for the site?

Address? On Google Earth just enter Lincoln Municipal Airport.

I'd be glad to get you an address but first I'll need to know if you want the paddock or course area.  They're in different zip codes you understand.
If you want the course area, I'll need east or west as well.

I was looking at the site again on Google Earth but it kept telling me "Continued on next satellite."

"The Lincoln Airpark offers 35.6 acres of concrete for course layouts, 5.7 acres of grid space and 16.9 acres of paddock space. In all, the site more than doubles in size. "

welcome to tire HELL. Hope you guy's are prepared to have a couple sets for nats weekWink

Most of us don't drive tire-eating Mini Coopers.  Stick out tongue

We dealt with it for years at Salina and Forbes, we'll deal with it again.  The downsides are far outweighed by the upsides.

I have attended many events at Forbes and Salina.Tire wear at Lincoln is much much worse.  I am not concerned as much about tire wear as I am about surface grip consistency.  As mentioned by many, surface prep will help.  So, since I am only 3 hours away, what can I do to help prep the surface to provide consistency for all the competitors for 2009? I am positive if the prep helps as many mentioned, this will be our site for years.  If prep doesn't help, I'm definitely concerned.  I'll probably sell the Mini either way, I cannot afford the tires to run at Lincoln.

Anyone want the 08 G-Stock National Championship Mini Cooper S?  I am working in San Diego at the moment, but, with the decision to go with Lincoln, I am thinking the Mini is going to have to go for 2009. :-(

It had to be Tim Herron.  You know the curvature of the earth really effects him after about 100'.  We'll have to get him a set of elevator shoes for Nationals.Stick out tongue

    CJOnline:

"They brought in a lot of business and the community's always supported Heartland Park and our efforts to bring in these type of events," Irwin said. "I feel bad for our community that SCCA has done this in this way."

Irwin said while the Runoffs were in Topeka the Solo Nationals received free use of the HPT facilities. Irwin told the SCCA it would need to rent the facilities now that the Runoffs are moving to Wisconsin, but he said local hotels and restaurants pledged to come up with two-thirds of the rental cost.

"The community was that much behind this event," Irwin said.

Maybe one day he'll figure out that the community was behind the event, not HPT.  If the community came up with 2/3 of the cost, then why couldn't he drop the price by 1/3 to match?   Its clear, and probably rightfully so, that all Irwin is trying to do is make money.. its his business and has a right to do so... given our economic position as a club, we are much better off at a location where rental is at or near free, where the community is blessed with out presence and spending power for a week.
