    One Lap Results

Autocrossers at One Lap of America - final results are up:

    http://www.onelapofamerica.com/history/2008/results/showResults.shtml?y=2008&res=OVL_CUM

Fourth overall is Ian Stewart and Peter Lier in Peter's 2004 GT3(!), this despite a 10 second penalty for hitting a single cone at one track event, plus getting shafted by the run order on a rainy day at another.

Danny Popp finished in seventh in a 7.0 liter Z06-powered Mongoose- BTW, also penalized the same outrageous, made-up-on-the-spot 10 sec penalty (this was a reportedly a laydown directional cone!). Some of the decisions made by Brock Yates smacked strongly of the infamous SETUP......

Ian won the autocross event by 1.5 seconds over the factory team/John Hennessey Viper ACR that ended up 2nd overall - no surprise there.

    Re: One Lap Results

Way to go Ian, Peter and Danny!

Actually Danny hit a cone on the warm-up lap, not even the timed one, and he was penalized 10 seconds.  Another car took out a ten cone wall on the timed lap and was also penalized just 10 seconds.  Ian hit a lay down cone directional cone and was hit with 10 seconds.  The rules say nothing about these penalties so they made the rule up on the spot, hit one or all and it's a 10 second penalty. Obviously the organizers knew nothing about autox and the rules associated with it...none of the cones were boxed and if they were hit they weren't always put back for the next car, and if they were they weren't in the same spot.

Also at the final autox several cars went off course (they chose not to walk the course) and the event organizers felt sorry for the DNF's so they decided to give those cars that DNF'd 150 points.  All other events awarded 0 points for a DNF.  After much discussion they changed their minds and took away the 150 points and made the DNF worth 0 points.  That's better.

They can do better!!!  If you're going to run an autox, then run an autox!  You don't go to a drag strip and put a slalom in it.

Thanks for the kind words Gary.  Ian drove the wheels off the GT3 and impressed a lot of people with his ability to go all out on a track he had never driven.. Several people came up and admitted they were looking at AutoX in a different light after his performance.

The Viper was STUPID fast and handled fantastically,  only a poor performance @ the wet skid pad kept him from winning.

The AutoX course was a joke and gave AutoX a bad name by being the worst course I have ever seen.  The 2 turns before the finsh were so tight it looked like some of the full size cars would need to do a 3 point turn to negotiate them.

    Re: One Lap Results

    So Peter,

Which year was more fun for you----this year with Ian or last year with Adam ?

Did you like it enough to do it again ?

PS---I am  mounting an effort in my Vette next year.  Printing up new t-shirts with some really nutty stuff on them---not to mention "UNIQUE" car graphics.  I am going to make sure that everyone next year knows about autocrossing !

PPS---Pete, could you put in a good word for me with the Hollis', as I was going to ask Andy and Ann if they could drive their "Minnie" Rec Vehicle behind me for race support---you know so I could use their bathroom when nature calls and what not-----what with Ann's nursing skills if I get a splinter or whatever----and with Andy's running ability, he could run to Wendy's for me, and grab me a small #1 combo, no mayo, with a diet coke, when hunger strikes me.

    David,

Not sure if I should reply.  Each year was a blast as my co drivers both overachieved.  Adam in the E46 and Ian in the GT3.  Sort of like bringing Brass Knuckles to a Hand Grenade competition.

Yes I will be back for 2009 with the E46M3 and a lot more power.  :-)
