    Speedster racing history.

I was wondering if anyone out there would know of a source to find some history on Porsche Speedsters raced in the Midwest region?

In particular, I am trying to trace the ownership history of my car that came from the Ohio area around 1980, I live in California.  The car supposedly had been raced and it might be logical to assume that it may have raced in the midwest region.  At least, it's a good first step.

Unfortunately, this is all the information I have on the car aside from its VIN, which is 80309.  The body on the car has been thrashed and repaired many times, this along with the remnants of a stout roll bar and anchors for 3-inch-wide seat belts, leads me to believe it might just have been a racer back in the day.

Does the SCCA keep records on cars raced from 1955 to say the early 1980's?  And would they have the chasis number included in the data anywhere?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    John (padgham2@hotmail.com)

    Re: Speedster racing history.

I spend many high school weekends hanging out at club races at the old Mid America Raceways in the mid 1970s. There was a driver named John O'Steen who lived in St. Louis. I recall he drove a Speedster. I think he moved to Ohio sometime in the mid-late seventies.

Here is a site for some ARRC results.

    It may provide some leads.

I owned a Speedster with a similar VIN from about 1970-1985.

It was not raced up to that time. I sold it to a party somewhere around DC/Baltimore.

IIRC this would be a car built in 1953-55 and dubbed a pre-A model.

    Re: Speedster racing history.

    Dubya,

Yes, car is a Pre-A built May 1955.

Thanks for the tip on VIR racetrack's history. Let's hope it does generate some leads.

Back in the day (let's say the 1950's and 60's) would the SCCA have kept records of chassis numbers of cars that raced?  I suppose this is a good question for Pete Hylton.
