    Hoosier A6 problem - splitting

I also posted this in the main tech forum but thought some here might help.

I took a set of 285 Hoosiers to the tire store to have them turned inside out.  When I arrived for pick-up they said they needed to show me something they found.  One tire had three splits in the sidewall exactly 9 inches apart.  I changed the tires at the track and loaded them to take them to the Auto Tire.  I may have overlooked it but it seems suspicious to me but I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt first because they would have been on the inside.  They had about 35 runs on them and not a problem.   Anyone ever have this problem with splitting?  Anything Auto Tire could have done to cause this and then corrected their mistake?  The other three tires were fine after being turned inside out.

Any help appreciated and contact info for the Hoosier tech guy mentioned in the forums in the past would be good too.  Thanks.

That's a new one to me.  I haven't been running on the A6 long but have been abusing the crap out of them on a camber challenged car and haven't had any issue.  Do you know if that was a rear or front tire?

That is an odd one I have never seen before.  It could be a mounting issue though, for the cuts being equal length makes me think that the machine they were mounted on did the cuts.  They're too smooth to not be splitting at a true seam of the tire. Thanks for the replies.  I sent Jeff a note and the pics.  I agree with you on the way they split and that they are ninie inches apart in both directions.  At least they're not new and I am moving to 295s anyway.

They were on the front right last.  They were moved from the rear to the front for the KC Divisional last weekend.

Saw this same problem on a friends XP car on 275-30-15 from tire rack. They gave him a new tire.

Re: Hoosier A6 problem - splitting

The folks at Hoosier made good on this issue.  Great people, great product!  Word to the wise - Do not order A6 tires in December, January and February.  If they are shipped from the tire distributor and the truck encounters subfreezing temps this could happen.  Many people knew of this issue but many still do not.  Thanks again, Hoosier.

That's interesting... I just noticed this on my 315/30/18 A6's... Guess I should give Hoosier a call....
