    Transmission change?

I searched through the rules in SP, and I cannot find anything that says something about a restriction on transmissions.  Im going to guess that the tranny has to come out of something that is within the update/backdate years, but there is still nothing actually stating that.  Anyone have a bit more insight than myself on this subject?  Thanks

You can update/backdate the transmission as a complete unit. That's it. No alternate transmissions, no mixing of gears, etc.

    Re: Transmission change?

It is my understanding that the transmission is treated the same as the motor in terms of UD/BD. It may come from an eligible car, but must be the complete unit. I actually took advantage of this on my FSP car with an updated motor first, then later, the trans from the same car.

Thats what I figured.  Now, heres a big question.  This transmission is hard to find from this particular car, but from another car, theyre all over the place.  same exact transmission, just different car.  OK or not?  I know its pushing it. Thanks

same transmision code and serial numbers?  if you goto the manufacture and ask for that transmision it lists the same part number for your car and the other car it's easily found on?  all the same ratios?  The I don't see the problem if they are the same.

According to my info its the same transmission numbers from the factory.  I dont see how anyone could protest it if its the same transmission t hat is available in the car, but isnt from one.  Thanks for the info

A competitor can protest you if you fart upwind of them. )  Remember the burden of proof will be on you to prove that the transmissions are identical.

Haha, I've heard of all the protesting you Texas guys do.  Im going to try and do it as close to completely un-protestable as I can.  Thanks for the info guys.

If the tranny code matches the code of an eligable UD/BD source, it would be the same as if it physically came from that source.

    Re: Transmission change?

Something similar has come up before with people swapping engines from cars not on the same line but are the exact same thing between different cars, and it was ruled OK.  Such as SR20DE engines coming in a Sentra SE-R but the same thing is in an Infiniti G20.

Pretty sure it was Matt Kogan 4-5 years ago who got a ruling from Doug Gill for his STS SE-R which had an engine from a G20.  Yeah that's STS, but if it's OK for ST, shouldn't be any different than SP. Same exact engine in both cars from '91 through '93.  Only difference is the valve cover -- one has "Nissan" cast on the outside of the valve cover, the other has "Infiniti."

It shouldn't be any different for a transmission.  As long as the transmission is *exactly* the same, it should be OK.  Gearing, case, etc.  If something minor like a speedo sensor hole is in a different location, then the transmission is NOT exactly the same.

    Re: Transmission change?

Well, it would help a lot if you would specify which car(s) is the subject of getting a new trainy. I had a trainy in my car (Eagle Talon AWD) that was bought from the Mitsubishi dealership and was used in the Eclipse GSX, but in this case that was OK since they where still the same parts with the same part numbers for both cars. My guess that you have to have something similar because it will be hard to match things any other way.

So, any more details that you could share?

Not at this point.  I know theyre the same tranny's, so everything should be a-ok.  gearing, part numbers, ect.
