    I'm new!

    Hey all,

My name is Hector Casanova. I currently live in Las Cruces, NM, but plan on moving back down to El Paso this year... May or so... I have a newer '07 Mazda MX5 that I got last June. I recently upgraded it a bit to give it some more power and better sound... I was reading about autocross and came across you guys down here! It looks like something I would love to do. I know you guys have something coming up on April 6th, unfortunately i'll be out of town that weekend. I come back on the 18th and noticed there was a two day event the FAST FIVE, on the 19th and 20th... Sounds interesting, but I don't even know what it is. I would definitely be interested in learning and having fun with you all... Can anybody help me out what I would need to do/have by that date so that i could participate?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hector Casanova

I don't have my sig setup... So i'll do a fake one :)

AEM Cold Air Intake and Roadstersport Race exhaust installed...

(just need some help with the Eibach Pro-Kit springs and those will be in too!)

    Re: I'm new!

    Hector,

I suggest logging on to our local website < www.panamscca.org > and reading through all the information on Solo (Autocross) participation. You'll find information on vehicle identification requirements, registration, and our Class and PAX Championship competition.  Luis Moreno has written and posted a lot of really good suggestions on car preparation.  If you have a chance, pick up a copy of Secrets of Solo Racing by Henry Watts.  Don't try and do everything the book says at once, but keep it as a reference to keep coming back to.  Visit the SCCA web-site and review the rule book.  This will help you figure out what class you belong in based upon modifications you've made.

The Fast-five event is a two-day event.  We do this once or twice each year.  There is more detail on our web-site, but the basics are that competitors who compete on both days are eligible for accumulating Championship points for Class or PAX competition.  In addition, the fastest combined (two-day) PAX times will be used to determine the competitors for a one run, run-off for Fast-five challenge.

I'm assuming that you are not yet an SCCA member.  This year we have a new requirement for temporary membership.  The cost is fifteen dollars.  The includes insurance for the event and will cover you for both days.  This can be credited to an SCCA membership if applied for within 60 days.  The event fee is not included.

This link will take you to a really well done review of Solo (Autocross) at our Rocky Mountain Division's web-site <  http://www.rmsolo.org/help.html# >.  Click on the Solo Introduction School link. There are a couple of differences in this and our local procedure, but for the most part the events are the same.
