Having trouble finding which class I am in.

I recently purchased an 1984 Fiero that was prepped for SCCA ITB.  The car has been cleaned up a bit and will be mostly at Auto X and some HPDE, but I have no idea what class I would be in.  I ran through the rule book and I am still having a hard time so I am probably just missing something big.  Could someone help me out?

It is as said before an 84' Fiero with a stock 4 cylinder 4 speed in the car, gutted interior and caged.  I know it is in Prepared, and I heard that ITB cars were put into FP but I wasnt sure and wanted to clarify.  Thanks.

Re: Having trouble finding which class I am in.

4 cylinder Fieros are in D Prepared.  From Appendix A-----

    "Pontiac
    Fiero (4 cylinder, 2.5 L)
Alternate parts: Air cleaner may protrude through engine hatch; double A-arm rear suspension"

Minimum weight is based on engine displacement, for a 2.5L engine it would be 0.95 x actual displacement.

The 6 cylinder cars are in F Prepared.  You might check out the Prepared rules, they are online at the SCCA web site.  I'm not familiar with IT rules, but check and make sure that the car is legal in Solo.

    And welcome to DPParty!!!

    The correct forumula:

"Engines with displacement greater than 1667cc: .95 x displacement (cc) + 250 lbs"

And let me also welcome you to DP.  Paradise

Re: Having trouble finding which class I am in.

IT cars are allowed to compete in their respective Street Prepared class.  In the case of the 4-cylinder Fiero, that's FSP.  It's hard to find there because it's under the Chevy/GM/Pontiac catch-all heading rather than the Pontiac-specific heading later in the list.

That should be marginally less painful than DP!

Just keep in mind, you have to run it at IT spec.  No mixing and matching rule sets with Street Prepared.

Even if the interior is fully gutted and it now has a sheet metal dash?  Either way, I am not looking to be highly competitive with the car, just looking to learn and have a lot of fun.  I just wanted to get an idea of where I am at and what I can do to the car.  Thanks.

It appears that the four cylinder Fiero is not classified in SP.  It can run in ASP under the catch all.  The car must conform to all current IT rules.

If it has a sheet metal dash, it is not IT legal anyway, so DP it is or put a stock dash back in.

Ok so DP is where the car will stay.  On that token, I can put in the 2.8 stock size motor and stay in DP right?  Is any other motor swap legal for DP?

And from what I had seen a 2.0 L or less is DP and the stock motor in the Fiero is 2.5L  So would i really be in DP?

There is no set engine size limit in DP.  Engines are explicitly allowed by car make/model.  In the case of the Fiero, the 2.5L model is in DP.  The 2.8L model is in FP.
