9/2 Club trial at Beaverun's kart track!

    Howdy,

Steel Cities is hosting another level 2 time trial (club trial) on the Wilson Circuit at BeaveRun. This is the kart track there. Pre-registration is open at:

    http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=7953

This event is a fun blend of autocross and full track disciplines. You run against the clock and speeds are similar to autox, but its on a real track with curbing and elevation changes. Current track record is a 1:04.6, held by yours truly. For reference, I was hitting the rev limiter in 2nd in three places (with 3.73 gears vs. the stock 3.42 gears) on track. Just bumping it in two places and hitting it pretty hard in the third (I should have shifted, but my clutch was pretty balky that day). Theoretically that happens at just over 70mph.

Risks _are_ higher than an autox, but nothing at all like you'd see on a full track. There are a couple places where a big enough mistake would put you into a tire wall, but the risk is _totally_ manageable. Many folks at the last event commented that they'd run autocrosses that had higher risks. So have I (but I also wouldn't have approved the course at those autocrosses!)

In terms of required safety gear, normal autox gear is all that's required for Stock, Street Touring, Street Prepared, and Street Modified vehicles with a closed top (includes sunroof, t-top, and targa top cars with the glass/rigid top in place). Prepared and Modified cars require at least a rollbar. All open top cars require at least a rollbar (above your head and built to SCCA specs) and arm restraints.  Driver's must have long pants, long sleeved shirt, and closed top shoes. Please see the supplemental regulations and/or the time trial rulebook (available online at the SCCA site) for more information on required safety equipment.

All drivers are required to work the event, just like an autox. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Pre-entry fee is $75, plus $5 if you're not an SCCA member. At the event entries, if we don't hit the cap, will be $85 + $5. MyAutoEvents.com does charge some processing fees in addition to our fees that we don't control.

Hope to see a bunch of you there!

    Howdy,

Just FWIW... If you're an autocrosser and you're wondering about doing an event like this... Just do it!  Its like autocross++  It's been a _long_ time since I've had that much fun in a car.  There are plenty of hotels nearby for folks that want to come run this event from out of town!
