Redline Time Attack - Atlanta Motor Speedway, August 25th-26th, 2007

    Hello Everyone,

I wanted to create a thread for our upcoming Redline Time Attack event at Atlanta Motor Speedway this August 25th-26th. We invite all enthusiasts and racers to attend this event, which is our first in the Atlanta area.  Saturday, August 25th is a High Performance Driving Event and lapping day. There will be no competition on Saturday.  Sunday, August 26th is the Redline Time Attack, which is much like SCCA SOLO 1 racing.

More information can be found on our website:

    www.RedlineTimeAttack.com

I also would like for members and the leadership of the local SCCA Region to contact me regarding free booth space we would like to give you for this event. This is the same offer we made to the St Louis Region which they took advantage of. I am of the mindset that we all need to work together to grow this sport as much as possible. Our event is only in town for 2 days out of the year, whereas you are there the other 363 days. Please take advantage of this opportunity to promote the SCCA.

If someone could contact me at:  Nikolas@RedlineTrackEvents.com

If you have any questions regarding this event, please post them here!

    Thanks!

    Nikolas

    I have questions:

     1.  What is the course at AMS going to be?  Are there going to be cones to keep cars down on the apron and off the banking or is the banking drivable?

    2.  The rules are interesting... A showroom stock car (stock off showroom floor essentially but with cage/safety) if on DOT legal tires (like we race on/not slicks) is automatically placed in a higher class unless running on full blooded street tires?  A 150HP car has no chance on street tires against other beasts 300/400 horspepower cars and certainly has ZERO chance if bumped up a class running against 300/400 HP cars :(

Is there a rule that SCCA cars in stock form can run in stock (street) class?  I can put my license plate back on ;)

I can just see it now, a SSC Civic Si on street tires running against an NSX or Integra Type R LOL

    1)  We will be using the banking of the turns, which is actually fairly safe.

    2) We have made a concession to allow Showroom Stock cars to compete in the lower divisions, provided they arrive in their class trim, with no power addons or other modifications that would be illegal for their class in SCCA. For Showroom Stock (SS) car to compete in Street Class, you need to use Street Tires... Otherwise, if you use DOT R-Compound tires, you must compete in Modified. We cannot allow the use of any DOT R-compound tire in Street Class.

We've made a similar concession for NASA Honda Challenge cars to compete in Modified Class.

Re: #1 thank god you are using the banking, I had heard some grumblings from people wanting to stay off the banking which is funny to me as it is much safer up on the banking.

Thanks for the concession I guess, my statement of a 150hp car running in modified against 300/400hp cars stands true I guess.  I certainly cannot afford to pay $800 for a set of street tires to stay in stock :O

    Thanks for the response..

You can pick up a set of very good street tires for less than $400 shipped if you look hard enough.  Kumho MX, Falken Azenis or the Hankooks... all very nicely priced, and no where near $800 for a set. ;-)

Um ok and then I can run against 300/400 HP cars in street stock that have intakes, springs, shocks, cams, ecu's done etc.

No thanks.  You guys should consider a better way to class cars instead of some free for all "but as long as on street tires" you are in street stock.  Afterall it is a competition on day 2...

What kind of car do you drive?

Street Class has been VERY competitive from the first event we ever ran. Horsepower alone will NOT guarantee a victory, as we have seen 240hp S2000s win against 500hp 350z's.

Time Attack racing is geared more towards modified vehicles. Our events are venues for tuners, shops, manufacturers and vehicle owners to prove what they can do against other entries....restricted to the same rules. No vehicle stands a chance in its respective class if it is completely stock or near to stock.

We will not be creating any new classes for our Time Attack series in the lower divisions and we will not be taking power/weight ratios into account. The use of "Street" tires does a wonderful job of limiting the performance capabilities of cars.

If running in near stock vehicles with every competitor theoretically on a "level playing field" appeals to you, then Showroom Stock is maybe more up your alley. If you're the type of guy who wants to build a bad ass car, turbo charger, coil overs, gutted, R-Compounds, 300hp and go whoop some but against a VERY wide variety of cars, then Time Attack events are for you.

OR,.... get creative and find a class in SCCA you can race in and be competitive, then have a Time Attack engine you can drop in to do time attack events.. then switch back to the SCCA setup and do the road racing.  We've seen that done before. Have the car pull double duty.  :-)
