I offered to stay and test, but I guess they didn't want an Evo there.  Tongue Tied  Stick out tongue

    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

They already had the Evo 6 (Peter Cunningham's with him driving) there for testing and my car, so they only had a set number of tires in certain sizes.  That is why I don't think they needed anymore help. You prefer the Dunlops anyway though! ;)

We can't say anything more about the tests at this time though.

No more questions!  No more questions!  We will see how everything goes.

You should give Colin crap though as two pages ago he was looking for Dunlops for his car, and now his signature says Bridgestone... not sure if it always said bridgestone, or just after doing the testing :).

    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

Hey all, I've had my eye on the Dunlops for my next street tire as my yokes finally corded. I came accross this video that compares the RE-II, Star Spec Z1, Yoke Ad07, and Toyo on a road course. It's kinda funny as it looks like a japanese version of "Setup" but the cars are all Mazda's. You'll have to sift through the japanese lingo, but they post lap times after each lap of the fifteen lap race. You can see which car is which by looking at the upper right of the windsheild for (DL) (BS) (etc). Other than the Toyo's they all seem pretty close with the Dunlops getting the fastest lap.

Make of it what you want but it's pretty cool.

Its called Best Motoring. Get it at best buy with subtitles. Its a fun car show they have there. We usually watch them in the car when we get a group to go to rev-it-up every so often :)

Heres the video of the RE01R vs RE11, check it out while it lasts as I think youtube keeps pulling it.

It looks to be marketing material from bridgstone, the graphics at the end match their japanese re-11 website.

It of course shows the newer RE-11 to be quicker than the older RE-01R.

So how do the RE-11's feel compared to the RE-01R's?  Do the RE-11's have the same floppy sidewall feeling as the RE-01R's?

    Thanks,

    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

Just to throw some water on the RE-11 discussion, the tires that were tested were the current JDM tire.  The USDM tire is not likely to be exactly the same, especially when it comes to the compound.  That was/is certainly true for the UDM RE-01R (not same as JDM).

So any conclusions as to overall performance don't tell the whole story.  The new tire could get even better...or worse.

    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

The re-11 should be fastest I agree....but whats important is what came in #2 and #3 and by how much. Why we ask?

The RE-11 might not be available in a 15 and 16" to work on STS and STS2 cars. If it is this is all a moot point...but what if the RE-11 is oh lets say $180 per tire in a 205/50-15"? and  what about $225 in a 225/45-16 maybe? or $270 in a 245/40-17?

How much will be spent for that last tenth or two?  On R comps the prices are all within $10-20. But what if in ST a tire was $50-75 more per tire? Would people buy it if it was only 0.1 faster? ;)

    I'm curious

    One of the Bridgestones!  ;)

    That was helpful.

It would seem that if I was Bridgestone, my 'new' replacement tire would be faster than the one being replaced...so it would stand to reason, based on all levels of resonability, of course, that the RE11 would indeed be the faster of the Bridgestones.  I am hopeful that they make more attractive sizes in that model...

...I am also very curious to see the Kumho XS when it hits our shores.  My guess is that it'll be rather speedy as well.

    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

Not to mention that it was faster on that day on that surface. What happens with higher or lower temperatures (remember the direzza's both warm up very fast and handle high heats very well, we dont' know tha the new bridgestone will match that flexibility).  Different surfaces could matter.  Also rain performance could matter a lot.  So if the Direzza and the RE-11 were the top two as I suspect they were, and they were within say .1 on a 30-40 second course I could easily see it being a wash or the advantage changing easily on other surfaces.  Also light car versus heavy car, sizing and sidewalls, driving styles, forgiveness at the limit, etc would all be factors that can erase or change the situation.

There will ALWAYS be those that will pay to go there.  But the permeation of the rank and file would be affected in my opinion.

    Re: Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1

Just an update on my Direzzas:

234 runs on them now and they are still very fast. My co-drivers last run at the recent SeDiv event (run 230 on the tires) would have been good enough for FTP without a cone he barely picked up in a sweeper. They have been flipped 3 times now and 2 are ~ 2.5/32nds and 2 are at 2/32nds. Should be on fresh shaved ones for Nationals though. I bet we could easily get 300 fairly competitive runs out of these, maybe even more without a bunch of runs on the concrete at Peru. Of course, this is on a balanced 27XX lb car with ample camber.
