I like the windows at the back of the RV.  I modified it and put the windows at the front of the trailer.  It doesn't separate the registration and announcing though.  The door also cannot be latched open without going in front of the window either.

Buccaneer region in Jacksonville FL uses a 7x16 tandem axle with the last 4 feet separated by a plywood wall.  This makes for nice finished area that is cooled by a roof top AC unit.  The tow van hold the cones.

Why not just build cone storage into the trailer? Why the need for a "trailer in a trailer"?

Quicker setup and teardown - PLUS you only have to handle the cones twice for each event. It's an idea I've been mulling-over myself to propose to our region. It's only "bad" if you've got like a million cones that would never fit your mini-trailer.

Word of advice from the TRSCCA trailer, move the cone trailer as far forward as possible.  We are going to have to make some adjustments to ours because the cone trailer really lowers the tongue weight.  We had problems transporting the fully loaded trailer with a big F250 trying to walk on us.

    Re: Club trailer layout

Ya'll have some nice rigs.  The North Carolina Region has a 7' or 8' x 16' or 18' tandem axle with a window on each side and a door on the passenger side.  Looks pretty similar to Buccanneer region's but without the dividing wall.  We have folding tables and run timing and scoring from inside the trailer so we need to see out all 3 directions sometimes.  Registration gets setup with a folding table and a canopy tent beside the trailer.  We stack our cones over the axles and have some 2x4's to hold them in place.  Cabinets are along the front wall.

We've talked about getting a box truck or motorhome but the insurance and upkeep are enough of a deterrent.  Plus if anything mechanical were to go wrong we'd be in big trouble.  We have event sites 1 and 2 hours away from where the trailer is stored.  We have 5 or 6 different members all with capable tow vehicles.  They take turns towing the trailer and either have someone else drive their car to the event or co-drive with someone.

    Re: Club trailer layout

There was a bunch in the Sacramento area that had something like an old Metro van with a side flap they used.  A more common type of vehicle would be along the lines of a converted "roach coach" or snack wagon.  The large kind you work inside of.  Something like that moves itself, room for the cones and equipment, etc.

    Re: Club trailer layout

A lot depends on how much revenue you can generate for your program as to weather a Van/Truck deal is feesable. We went with a new custom built 17ft dual axle trailer which serve equipment storage and P/A, registration T&S stations.

    1. We are a smaller region and the insurance on a truck/van would pay for a trailer in only two years. Trailer costs us around $4,200 custom made to order with windows and cable hatches.

    2. If the da truck don't start, no solo that day. Many unhappy drivers. Tow vehicles are easy to come by in a pinch. Even rent a tow vehicle if we had too.

    3. A 17' trailer with a 5,100 load rating  with dual axles like ours can be towed safely with a lage SUV or 1/2 ton Pick up. Bigger than that and your tow vehicle options get trickier.

    4. Bigger trailer also has issues with storage off season and more people want to hang around inside it causing issues with the T&S and Announcer staff (4 persons comfortably). They just say "No room in here so get out!"

    5. Our 17 ft can hold all the cones we need for a large grid and course at Peru, plus P/A, generator, coolers, flour, dry soak, 12 extinguishers, everything we need to run a 250 car solo at Peru.

    6. We decided on "barn doors" on the back so we could install window for P/A and T&S. We just open the doors drive the general course and drop cones around the course before we set up the trailer for technical duty on solo day. Can't really do that with a ramped back.

    7. We made the windows symetrical on both side so we can position the trailer with greater flexability and just flip the tables around on the inside for P/A & T/S left or right hand pending traffic flow to the start. We have a 6ft folding table accros the back and a 8ft table on one side or the other.

    8. We made removable plywood panels for the indside of the windows for security and during transport incase the load shifted inside. The slidng windows have screens also.

That's nice.  With screens in the windows, I assume registration is not done at the trailer?

We just open the doors in the back. If the sound is not too much we can leave the doors open during the event for extra air flow. Easy to adjust during the event too.

Forgot to mention the builder added a "RV door handle and latch" on the side door in addition to the standard cargo bar/latch system. Kind of nice feature to open and close quickly from the inside of the trailer.
