Re: New Dunlop Sizes for ST / STS / STX
Hey Jason, LMK the size you think that would be good for sales, say a 255/35-17, and I can pass it on. But the S2Ks, M coupes and MX5s (6spd?) seem to be able to take advantage of the 255/40-17 already available. Are you thinking MR2? :) Rick

Rick, no, Jason is right. The AP1 S2000 can definitely take advantage of a 255/35-17 (it would be the ideal tire IMO), as well as the 5 spd MX5 and MR2.
Also, a 245.45R16 would also be popular for the AP1 S2000 crowd becuase none of the top tier tires come in that size for the stock wheels.
Please please make the 255/35!!!
James

Re: New Dunlop Sizes for ST / STS / STX
Yep, the Spyder would make good use of the tire in the rear at least, as would the AP1 S2000, and a couple others. All of the cars running it would benefit from the lower tire MOI and the 1/2" (if not more) lower CG. 255/35-17 would be great, theoretically it should be just about 24" tall.
Hoosier has a trick, to make their 335-18 they just do the 315-18's but with a 1" tread "spacer" in the middle when they make the tire. If Dunlop took their 215/40-17 and gave it an extra 2" of solid tread towards the outside shoulder, it'd be perfect.

The Street Tire Challenge outlook is changing right there, especially with ES "soft" index...
I'm hoping the 14" make for a great street/rain tire for the STS Miata too.

Another option for 225 45 15 would be nice And from what I've heard Hankook is having a hard time keeping them in stock.

X2
I think any tire in the 23-24" diameter that is 225 wide would be welcome to the 'other car' ST crowd...the 225/40-17 would be cool too, but I dont know that it would really be much wider than the 215/40-17 to justify. A 225/45-16 or even a 225/40-16 would be good for cars that have brakes that cant (easily) take a 15" wheel (e.g. SVT Focus). A 225/50-15 would be a 24" tire that would help cars that find 23" tires too short...

SS RX7 R2:
TopGear8:Any idea on when they will be released? The 265's for STX is what we have all been waiting for in the 17.
I heard the beginning of March.
The 265-17 is a cool size, saves a lot of folks with 17" wheels the expense of buying 18"s. It may shave some wt. and cost compared to an 18" wheel and tire combo too. Should work well on RX-8s and E46 BMWs.
What other sizes might be popular, 225/45-15, 245/45-16, 285/30-18? The 5 new sizes cover most of what Dunlop has on the Japanese size chart, so I don't know if they would be interested in opening new molds.

Re: New Dunlop Sizes for ST / STS / STX
racerX_244:hmmmm. 195/60/14s on 14x7 rpf1's for STS? Could be sweet...
Yea, sweet for driving to and from events and maybe in the rain. Way too much sidewall to be fast around the course. The 15in sizes would transition substantially better.

TR may be pleasantly surprised by getting them earlier. :) When the Star Specs were introduced in '08, the first shipment had only so many in each size. A few popular sizes sold out quickly, and some couldn't get tires until Dunlop adjusted for demand in the next shipment. It may not happen this time, but just a head's up. Rick
