Re: Signed up for class but just got a new car

Well I got a different set of tires tonight.  I just got Kumho Ecsta MX 225-45-17 with about 2K on them.  Only $200.  Nice even wear on them.  Will try and get them on next week.  So I have the 1st part done of getting this car setup better.

Re: Signed up for class but just got a new car

I am thinking of ordering my numbers before the season starts.  I got the new tires.  I did bump from a 205-50-17 to a 225-45-17.  That is now the stock size for the 09's.  I think for this season I am going to get a bigger front sway bar to help it turn better.  If these are the only two mods I get this year what class am I in?  I am a little confused on what I need for class magnets.

    Thanks,

Re: Signed up for class but just got a new car

You would need an F for the class Front Street Tire and you'll be competing with a DS(tock) Index.  FYI: for the class you can also change brake pads, cat back exhaust(lighter, louder, maybe 3 HP), and shocks, which there are none yet, though Koni is working on it. I just realized you're probably the person I offered my 09 tires to on NASIOC.  The MX's will be decent to compete on.

    Yes that is me.

Thanks for the class help.  I ran STS with my SI last year and that was easy to know what I was in.  Have to say the stock classes are a little harder to make sure I was in that.

You will want an "A" if you run WAI events too.  They have an All Wheel Drive Class.

FYI, K & M Magnetics will be on site for the first Milw region Solo event on April 19th.  Contact John beforehand to make sure he has what you need.

Well I just happened to look at Milwaukee's online registration and saw that they have a seperate "all wheel drive" street tire class now as well.  So I guess you don't need an F at all, just an A.

Re: Signed up for class but just got a new car

You used to be "STS" that is now "ST"  It is a class that is already on street tires.  Now, there is an "F" an "R" and an "A" for front, rear and all-wheel-drive street tire classes.  When you register, you will be "A" with a "DS" index.  That means that the car you are driving on street tires would be in "DS" if you were on race tires.  All you need on the car is your number and the class will be "A"  The "DS" is only put on the car when you have the race tires on, you do however need to remember the "DS" as you will need to put it down as your index class to equalize the "A" participants.  Geeked

Re: Signed up for class but just got a new car

If you're running 140+ treadwear tires, (which it sounds like you are) then we only want to see the A (for AWD street tire class) on the side of your car with a number.  You'll use DS (for D-Stock) for your index when you register.  That's assuming an 08 WRX, if it's an STI then you'd use AS for A-Stock.

If you're a annual member you can go here to reserve a number, (46 is currently open).  If you're not yet a member, go here to sign up.   A lot of this is explained here.

I'd email John at K&M telling him you want him to bring two of the following, (one for each side of the car).  4, 6, A.  If you ever plan on going to DOT R tires like the Hoosier A6 then have him also bring a couple D's and S's.  He's got white and black but may have other colors available.  Remember to use contrasting colors, black and red or white and silver are usually bad combos.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Is that class offered for the entire season, or just in the computer for the possible additional event?

It's a regular class for WAI and is a new regular class for Milwaulkee SCCA this year as they used to put AWD cars with the FWD cars in a street tire index class. Not to further confuse things but an FYI:  There is no "street tire" classes beyond ST, STS, STX, STU in Divisional and National events.  Every region has the ability to create local classes.  If you run in Chicago Region's street tire class, you're grouped with everyone as they don't seperate cars by drivetrain.
