if anyone gets the urge....a picture of the course map for those coming later would relieve some anxiety.  i hate waiting to fly out there!

Sorry, no course map here, but here is how I remember it.

South course starts with 50 foot straight with a 90 degree right, now were heading down the west side of the course with a 3 cone slalom and a transition back to the right 30 degree's with a 3 cone slalom, slight 10 degree transition back to the right into another 3 cone slalom with an immediate 20 degree bend back to the left into a small straight, then a 90 degree bed to the right with six of these 3 cone slaloms, the 6 sets of 3 cones(within a couple feet of one another) come in -aligned pairs with the 2nd and third pairs going immediately to the left offset probably 30 feet or so, the course map didn't show this very accurately, at the end of this very long transitional slalom, now your on the east side of the course where you'll enter into a 180 degree wide sweeper back toward the center with a short straight into a 90 degree very long sweeper that can be ran as a nice straightaway witht he correct line, then, into a 180 degree medium sweeper with a medium straight that bends about 30 degree's back to the right, at the end, it whips back to the left about 110 degree's thats fairly tight into a very short straight into a 90 degree left turn with a long straight back towards the south, at the end of the straight, its a 90 degree left into a 6 cone slalom with a 90 degree turn at the end into the finish, the last 2 90 degree turns have no cones to designate the line.

I'm sure it doesnt help much but its better than nothing. :-)))

I'll try to have a GPS map of at least one course up tomorrow, possibly both, not sure yet though if Schotz will be running the G2extreme tomorrow.

I tried walking with the g2extreme today to get a GPS map of the south course, but I had some power problems and was unable to get an accurate map.

I just uploaded a copy of the North course to the Files section of the Evolution-Discussions Yahoo group.  I don't have the South.

I'm sitting here in the paddock at Forbes right now while we have a lightning delay. Major squall line coming through with heavy strikes all around. They pulled all the course workers just before sending the first cars of the first heat. Rain is constant but not heavy (think Pacific NW). Should be a constantly drying course when they actually begin.

Very interesting at Turn 1 "decision point". I would have to walk it but I think that there might be 2 good choices there.
Let us know which way most people pick please.

I've been polling people as they walk the north course, and its been about 50-50 as to which way people are planning to go.

When we set this up back in the spring, we spent about 30 minutes tweaking that section until the test driver felt it was equal each way.  My personal opinion is that it will depend on whether you have a momentum car or a high-horsepower vehicle.  And also how dirty the two lines get from folks going the other way.

Andy, the course looks fun!  We'll see when I get I fly in tomorrow how I really feel about it.

Although I did not drive particularly well, those were the best 2 courses I have seen at Nationals in the 5 years I have been going. Great use of space, great flow, good speeds!

agreed, loved those courses. never figured out the north, and video shows i drove the south pretty poorly. oh well, there's always next year! only complaint on the north was the visuals coming up to the showcase turn. a little tougher then i thought it should be picking out the entry. otherwise, two thumbs up!

My 4th time at Nationals, and I think the North course was very nice (even after the change...it gave me something to remember from last year).

The South course looked great on the map...it looked like the kind of course that fit me (and my car) perfectly, as we both love slaloms. It probably drove just like I would have wanted, if it had been dry. Given the situation (wet, but drying, and in a borrowed car the likes of which I'd never autocrossed before), though, I was not happy. Not the course designer's fault, of course... ;-)

Good job to both course designers, and I hope to see more of your work in the future!

I liked both courses also.  My only minor criticism would be that we never used the brakes much.  We had hard braking on the reworked part of the north course and before the left hander after the showcase sweeper on the south but that was it.

I enjoyed the courses. My only nitpick is that the north course's gates could be hard to pick out for newer drivers, specially once it rained. Maybe some pointer cones would have helped. As it was, the course workers at Station 2 did a bit of pointing to get drivers to go the right way. One scary moment was when one driver cut across before the worker station.

I really liked the choice at the end of the first slalom. I disliked driving the long slalom first on cold slicks. Damn car did not want to turn!

I was looking forward to driving that one course element that was unfortunately deleted. It was sneaky good. Oh well...

Jeff,

Get a car with more motor (i.e. almost anything) or less grip (i.e. something on street tires) and you won't have that problem any more.
