They should move the RX8 into STX also. I think that car has a chance to challenge the WRX.

. Keep the tire limit on awd... but allow them to run wider rims. Increase the width on FWD and RWD for wheels and tires.

I agree, but the wider tires should only be allowed on the drive wheels.  The alleged advantage of AWD is the ability to "put down power."  Cars with drive at only one axle should be allowed more traction at that end, but why give them more TOTAL grip?  Am I the only one who sees that logic?

I don't think that is reasonable, and it forces a potentially unbalanced car. Also, on a FWD vehicle, if you haven't increased the grip in the back, you haven't helped corner exit, and therefore haven't helped put down anymore power.

I would argue that the allowances in the ST classes provide more than enough ways to balance handling.  If you want more grip in back, remove that huge RSB Wink

I don't see how giving cars with similar weight (and in many cases much lighter weights) more contact patch is a fair trade.  The main difference between the powertrains is there ability to to provide usable torque to the wheels.  2-4 mm of tire width at the driven end should do that, but giving them 2-4mm to use over the entire course for turning/braking/acceleration will tip the balance the other direction.  Let's face it, what percentage of an autocross run is spent at full throttle?

Reading this thread over and over again there seems to be no happy medium.

Perhaps the solution to level the playing field would be limiting the AWD tire width?

Yes, takebacks suck.  So do augmented rules that don't actually change the situation at hand.

You know, It is possible to make additional allowances for the AWD cars, so that the net sum for the tire and or other allowances for the other platforms is not perceived as problematic.

That would be fine by me.  My suggestion is allow AWD vehicles with factory open diffs front AND rear to be allowed install a limited slip on one axel.  Then I'd not worry about tire sizing etc as I'd have 3 wheel drive instead of mostly 2 wheel drive in my R32Big Smile
