New Dunlop Sizes for ST / STS / STX
Dunlop is coming out with 5 new tire sizes. Probably of most interest will be the 205/50-15. The others will be a 195/50-15, a rare 265/40-17 for STX/U, and 2 small 14" sizes. Rick

Re: New Dunlop Sizes for ST / STS / STX
Any idea on when they will be released? The 265's for STX is what we have all been waiting for in the 17.

+1 This could also change my choice as well if they're available at the start of my season.

Re: New Dunlop Sizes for ST / STS / STX
Don't they already make a 265/35-18? If so, then cheaper wheels would be the only advantage to a 265/40-17. Now, if that were 265/35-17, they'd be getting somewhere...

P40vic:This is ONLY a guess, but in New Zealand they offer 185/60/14 and 195/60/14 . FWIW, caveat emptor, etc
Yes those are the 14 inch sizes.

I heard the beginning of March. The 265-17 is a cool size, saves a lot of folks with 17" wheels the expense of buying 18"s. It may shave some wt. and cost compared to an 18" wheel and tire combo too. Should work well on RX-8s and E46 BMWs. What other sizes might be popular, 225/45-15, 245/45-16, 285/30-18? The 5 new sizes cover most of what Dunlop has on the Japanese size chart, so I don't know if they would be interested in opening new molds.

With that height, I worry about those 265s vs 255s. Dunlop has done a great job making a stiff sidewall on those tires, stiffer than most, but with the new size, what's the cost of that stiffness? Really though, this just saves any need to go with 18" wheels in STX.

Maybe a 225-40-17 for the fatter cars in ST / STS?

They're definitely pros and cons with this choice, but I think I'll be sticking with a 255/40-17 for this season.

285/30-18 would probably get me to switch back to 18s and buy Dunlops.

Hey Rick,
A "wide" 255-17 in diameter at or under 24" would make quickly become the most popular tire in STR, methinks. The problem right now is anything good labeled 255 in width is at least 25" tall.
