Hi, not a very experienced autoxer here, been doing it for 2 years now, and time for a new carBig Smile.....was researching on the forum already...but still couldnt find a defitnite answer, I am looking at a new mini cooper with classic package(in Canada, this is the base model), Do you guys think this would be the car to have for HS? I tried researching it, it seems that the classic package in canada is the bone stock(base) in the US, can someone clarify, thnaks.

    Re: car for HS?

That's the beautiful thing about HS...there are several  cars that could be competitive in HS.  Last year, there were 6 different cars in the top seven.

    Mazda3

    Mini

    BMW 3

    5th Gen Civic

    7th Gen Civic

    Subaru

Obviously, I recommend the 7th Gen Civic 01-05...i kinda like them, seeing that it was the fastest car on day one, both RAW and scratch. :)

I'd go with a proven winner:

2007 H Stock Pro Solo Championship car:  BMW318i.

Ya gotta run clean and fast.  Stick out tongue

    But I am biased. Smile

Also it was the  2002 Solo H Stock National Championship winner.

You still selling the car, Matt?  I have an interested party in SoCal after getting a taste of one a few weeks ago...email me and I can forward it to them.

Certainly can't disagree with anyone here.  If I were considering a Mini, I would DEFINITELY go with the "Sport Package," or whatever it's called for the stiffer springs and larger sway bars.

I test drove both a Mini and the Mazda 3...they are good cars.  But, I'm kinda partial to Hondas!  :)

Yes, still have the car. Won pax at a local event a few weeks ago http://www.fcscc.com/08results_apr20PAX.htm. I keep debating to come back and smack you punks back into your corners. :neener:

It is a great car to have as a back up to our other cars. I was never officially selling the car, but as they say, for the right price....

And I am sure that after your first 4 or 5 runs this past Sunday the temptation to do just that was quite strong.  Big Smile

    Bring it on!!

Just do it in 2009, I've already set the tire budget for this year. Being the only one on R-comps in the region in HS is kind of easy on the walletSmile

That's ca-ca.  Super Angry  I needed a car a couple months ago, and knocked on your door.  You said 'no thank you' and closed it.  I already went a different way, but if you still maintain that it has a price, PM me with that number.  Other wise, stop teasing me!!!!  Whisper

I wonder how the Saturn Astra would fare in HS.  Optional 18x8's would allow for some very big tires to fit and I've heard handling is above average.

This car is the carbon copy of the german Opel Astra and I also think it should be a contender in H/S. A very good move by GM to bring this here....

    Re: car for HS?

...."Where is my smilie for throwing up...."  Have you driven one yet?  They have NO torque No and the shifting is wierd.  53mph at the top of second gear and it takes about....50 ga-billion seconds and 2 miles to get there.  It handles GREAT though, even with the Torsion Bar Rear Suspension and electro-pneumatic steering, but even a Toyota Yaris would crush it...IMO.  I went and drove one when I was considering a new car two months ago, and in addition drove the new Lancer.  Neither of them seemed like a good choice, unless you had unlimited time and resources to develop the car.

There really isn't an HS straight out of the box made right now (except Mini/MZ3) that is that great unless you want to spec out a tC with all the goodies.  BTW has anyone driven the new Suzuki SX4?  Just curious what those things are like?

Wouldnt that just make the tires really expensive... especially for a HS car. Hell the 17's I run are bad enough. I wonder what the clearance in there is? If you cant at least fit 245's under there it would be pretty pointless.

    Re: car for HS?

After watching Will K. drive the new Civic at El Toro I have changed my mind and think that it is a viable HS car that can be bought new as well.   I'll stick with my EP3 for now though.

Like has been said, an astra is horrible.  Our 91 SC would destroy it as it sits.....and that means it's got horrible rod knock...again
