Thinking of doing some Pro's in the Solstice..Does it have a chance in CS?
Kumho's 245-35-18's or not tested yet 265-40-18 Hoosiers A6's(with 245 rains just in case). Hoosiers are a little taller which might hurt acceleration? I suck at the tree but would like to at least have a chance at top spots before I $invest$ in travel plans/expenses. Clutch might not hold up...Rear end or drivetrain won't break(it is beefy). What does everyone think? The car seems to be good at SOLO events but PRO's are a different animal so I defer to the PRO experts. As always, any and all responses appreciated. FM

LOL! And race against all those "ASP" cars that are in SS now? Seriously, I have my doubts that the Solstice can get it done in the Pro environment with top dog drivers in each car and I don't want to waste my budget getting serious about doing the Pro's if it is going to be a waste(ie lose). FM

Don't bother you'll get your ass handed to you. Start another campain
to get the Solstice reclassified to ES. You've done it before.

Having just witnessed the Solstice in Milwaukee at the Tour, I would say go ahead and get that Pro entry form sent in.

Well...No Pro's for me.
Emergency Vet visit early today. My dog is scheduled for ligament replacement surgery this Friday.
Thanks for all the replies.

This has to be one of the most self depreciating, no confidence, pitiful and maybe even idiotic statements I have ever read. Simplify this: Im not going to race unless I WILL win. Not CAN win, not willing to accept development time. No, I want instant gratification....

Whatever dude. That is rude. Why should I dance to your drummer? I won't travel if I know, like I said earlier that I "don't have a shot at the top spot". If I was "guaranteed" a top spot, I probably wouldn't go either. Why should I waste my valuable time if people think the car is not going to do well? I have my doubts about the car and I was trying to find out what people thought of the Solstice in the PRO environment. Doesn't matter now anyhow since "real life" has gotten in the way. Put another way: What if you KNEW that your DP car was not going to get it done against say, the Miata's. NO matter how much you spent/developed etc, the car was not going to be good. Would you keep working on it and spending money on it and travel to get your ass handed to you time and time again? Heck! Maybe you would. I wouldn't though. FM

Re: Thinking of doing some Pro's in the Solstice..Does it have a chance in CS?
You'll never know what you can do in your car at a PRO until you try
it. Seriously, the Mazdaspeed Miata looks to be the best car CS
car for PROs "on paper," but that hasn't scared the normally aspirated
miata guys away.

Re: Thinking of doing some Pro's in the Solstice..Does it have a chance in CS?
After driving the MS Miata a few times before deciding on the Solstice, I am very surprised to hear that they are not pulling the 99's off the start line.
I bought my car because I thought it was going to be a good CS solo car. It seems to be that so I am happy. Pro's are different animal and I don't have that much experience at them. I can't afford to experiment at them now so I guess that pretty much fixes that. Luckily for me, one of my buddies CAN do the remaining PRO's(which is what started this whole thread for me due to codrive offer) so maybe next year I can plan accordingly.

Re: Thinking of doing some Pro's in the Solstice..Does it have a chance in CS?
Mike,
The car can do it.
That said, *you* have minimal Pro Solo experience, so you will be at a disadvantage to any seasoned veteran CS Pro Solo driver, regardless of car. You have to decide whether you are willing to try and overcome that by participating. Personally, I can't see why you wouldn't (except for budget).
The Solstice gives up nothing to a Miata on the launch. The only potential advantage a Miata has is that Pros tend to have more technical courses involving transitions due to the constraint of splitting the lot in half. But DC and Atwater were not transition-heavy, so its not a given. Wendover usually has slaloms, but they are typically huge and run like straights for a CS car. And you probably know more than I about Packwood.

Sorry if I came across TOO harshly, but that wasn't my intention. Unfortunately the way you stated your questions WAS "Am I going to lose?" Yes, you will lose. Yes, you may win. There are 15 other CS people going out and taking the same chance. Will you? Sadly not, and having 2 beautiful Bulldogs myself, I can appreciate the choice you have to make.....I would do the same. To answer your other question. I ran a 2001 Spyder for 3 years, then a 2004 Spyder for one year. I WON exactly ONCE. (Toledo Pro) I trophied exactly ONCE (2002 Pro Finale?) Up until THIS year with the DP Spyder, which btw I had NO idea how competitive it would be when I started building it, I had never won a trophy at even a tour, and yet to trophy at nationals. But I don't do this for that, I race for the competition, the challenge of setting up the car, and absolutely the comaraderie and friendships I have gained over the years. Perhaps if you run Nationals this year, come on over to Team Blenderblaster pits and relax with us. Would love to have you after you win some events in that Solstice!!! Sorry again to sorta hijack this, and I return the thread to its original purpose....

Re: Thinking of doing some Pro's in the Solstice..Does it have a chance in CS?
Mike you'd certainly have more than a chance at the Packwood ProSolo since so far it's only Mitch and I and I think you proved at Everett last weekend that the '06 Miata is no match for the Solstice! :-)
