2008 SPS Midiv RallyCross Champions Crowned

December 13, 2008

Mike Byington, Steve Slotten and Robert Wright of St. Louis Region and Mark Walker from Nebraska Region have become the first ever SPS Midwest Division RallyCross Champions.  Byington won the Prepared Rear-wheel drive class championship in a Mazda RX-7 while Slotten took Prepared Front-wheel drive in a Honda CRX.  In the all-wheel drive classes, Walker was the Stock champion in a Mazda CX-7 and Prepared went to Wright in a Subaru Legacy.

Over 50 drivers competed in the first year of the SPS MiDiv RallyCross Championship Series.  The first event was hosted by the Mid-South Region in Marion, Arkansas.  St. Louis Region held the second event at Gateway International.  The series finale was hosted by Nebraska Region at Mid-America Motorplex.  Drivers from any Midwest Division region were eligible to compete for the divisional championships.  Points were awarded at each event for both finishing position and the number of entrants beaten.  Participation in at least two of the three events was required to qualify.  Trophies will be presented to the four champions at the upcoming Midwest Division convention.

The inaugural MiDiv RallyCross Championship Series was sponsored by SPS.  SPS is the nation's largest and oldest distributor of racing supplies tailored for Solo, amateur racing and track events.  Since 1984, they have been providing the highest quality products at great prices to amateur racers throughout the USA.  Operating as SCCA Gear they are the official source for SCCA apparel and merchandise.
